Misc non-opiate pain medication

Naproxen works well for headaches I've had in the evenings at times.
 
I'm also on Toradol ie Ketorolac its highly aspirin based and is used with morphine in iv drips for a while in hospitals (w/o the apspirin I believe) and was left alot of sediment in the tubing so they quit using it as much I believe. I'm prescribed it and soma because I'm on BMT and it all comes from the same doctor. Also it's an older drug I believe. It personally makes me get really flush and hot I do not like it and don't take it unless I have a TERRIBLE headache and its prescribed for my back.

I've heard some including my doctor say it's a wonder drug though.
 
Yes Toradol is probably the strongest NSAID, it comes in pill and ampules(sp?) and works very well, for a non-opiate/opioid.
 
Lumiracoxib was the best COX-II inhibitor I ever used. Unfortunately it has been pulled in a number of countries.

For short term use it is fine.

In order of preference

1. Lyrica (RX)
2. Gabapentin (RX)
3. Naproxen (RX/OTC)
4. Ibuprofen (OTC)/Excedrin (OTC - I don't really like acetaminophen, but when combined with caffeine it works pretty decently for a headache.)

Never tried Toradol, but that seems to be a popular answer so I guess you can look into it. And I don't recommend Tramadol if you are a recovering opiate addict since Tramadol kind of is and opiate.

Gabapentin and other medications that work on GABA or norepinephrine work well as neuropathic pain analgesics. For non-neuropathic pain, over the counter NSAIDs such as naproxen work pretty well. I'd avoid tylenol like the plague because it simply is way too toxic to the liver and the NSAIDs work better for analgesia anyway.

The jury is still out on ibuprofen & naproxen vs. acetaminophen, even though the latter is the worst so far the others should be used as described at the most !

I used 220mg of naproxen last night (and I'm on 150mg of daily MMT) for a pounding headache probably from stress + inflammed sinuses. It helped get rid of the headache and surprisingly gave me a nice 'buzz' from the relief of the headache. It was good.

Ya he said NON opiate paink iller anyway. Tramadol IS a opiate. Besides it give seizures and heart palputations. My mom expreinced both.
 
i think the best non-opiate medication is ketamine or MXE, well technically they affect the opiate receptors but so little that it is almost significant. however, they are often times hard to find and are definitely NOT safe for daily use..

for daily use, i'd go with lyrica or gabapentin hands down!! naproxen sodium works really well for me aswell
 
Ketamine is a good drug to use but cannabis also has analgesic properties. I assume the OP has used cannabis before if he's RX'd methadone, ya know it's just better to stick to drugs that you have experience with rather than try new ones.
 
for reasonably short term (deifntiely nto everyday) Ive got to agree that ketamine, mxe or even PCP are the best there is. I once removed a large wart from my toe that was far too painfull to remove sober, my previous attempts had just made it bigger, ketamine allowed me to pull the fucker out and not even wince. True story !


On a side note, im finally a bluelighter, YAY :D.
 
Ketorlac (toradol) has always been a very good pain reliever for very short term periods (2wks<).
 
all non-opiate painkillers (especially OTC ones) are pure garbage.

sickens me that tylenol is ok to buy when/wherever and will trash your liver and kill you, however opiates are fully non-toxic with basically zero effect on cognitive ability/health but unbelievably regulated

Absolutely NOT. It is used only for I believe like 2 weeks because it is a very heavy duty NSAID and has been known to cause liver damage with excess use. I believe there was a recent REALSPORTS w/ Bryant Gumbel that detailed the use of toradol in the NFL.

Also, the shot seems a lot more potent than the pills but the pills are still excellent for treating acute pain flare ups.
