Im prescribed prozac for social anxiety. i think ill be doing shrooms fairly soon. i heard that SSRI's wont allow the full effects of psychs? so i was planning on not taking any prozac for 1 week prior to the trip.

but i was wondering if things started to get really bad on the trip, would i be able to take some prozac to suppress the trip? or do i need xanax or valium for that

From my experience it helps a bit, but not as much as a benzo would.

Edit: Alcohol, I mean.

taking an SSRI would probably make your trip worse, and is a risk for serotonin syndrome. I'd advise against taking it during your trip and it's a good idea to stop taking it a week beforehand.

You can just use alcohol if you don't have anti anxiety pills.

Not good advice. Alcohol changes the effects of psychedelics but doesn't diminish them; in some cases it can make things much worse. Its best to administer 10-20mg of valium, iff the trip gets out of control. Prozac won't have an effect on the trip if taken acutely like that.

It is not a risk for serotonin syndrome. Psychedelics are partial agonists at certain serotonin receptor subtypes, there is no risk for serotonin syndrome even when combined with a reuptake inhibitor because psychedelics aren't monoamine releasers.

You can still trip hardcore whilst on SSRIs and SNRIs. I was on venlafaxine (effexor) for years, and I had some insane trips during that time.

It may somewhat alter the nature of the trip, but the intensity is usually not that much different.
