For those asking if it picks up, yes. George Martin seems to drag on and on and on before getting to action.

ETA:

Is it my imagination or did they go much more into Renly being gay than the book? I don't remember Renly's sexual escapades being so detailed.

Asha's actress does not look like I pictured her. I thought she was extremely good looking in the book. She looks more like a Brienne than what I pictured. I thought the book mentioned Theon being extremely attracted to her, but it seems like he was just trying to have sex with whoever when he got to his father's island.

Not your imagination at all. It was very subtle in the book.

HBO inserts gay sex into as many programs as possible. I suppose it'll show up on Hard Knocks pretty soon as well.

No kidding; as far as I can recall it was limited to a snarky comment or two and an apparent lack of interest in women.

i didn't think she was extremely good looking, but pretty, and her sure shot attitude made up for her too big nose and whatever else, as Theon describes her. I don't need all my ladies to be glamorous flossy flossy, and it's very feminist of GRRM to write women in a multitude of ways (Brienne, Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Dany, etc), I just am so unsure about this actress :(

DON'T FUCK HER UP, RACHEL MADDOW LOOK A LIKE!!!1111!!

well well well!

Renly was not long for this world now was he? I enjoyed Brienne & Catelyn's exchange, that was very nice. But Qarth & Jaqen H'ghar were the big ones for me. I didn't even notice in Jaqen's last scenes that they put the streak of white into his hair! But they did! He's kind of a 'minor' character but I think he's really cool/important/awesome, and I'm glad he's finally being fleshed out a little bit. I agree with posters a couple pages back who think that he appears later in the books as another person (with Pate?) I'd like to see him return as "himself" later on.

a girl keeps secrets. a man has no right to take that from her.

not to mention i think he's totally gorgeous! i mean, no tits in this episode, but the ladies were sure thrown a fucking bone!

I did rather enjoy Arya's little speech about The Young Wolf with Tywin, even though this whole thing is totally wrong or whatever.
I nearly had a heart attack when Pyat Pree showed up with his blue lips and little magic tricks. I was like HOUSE OF UNDYING ALREADY?

Can't wait for next week!!!

ha. renly was so sassy and foolish.
idk why, brienne is just...meh to me. i don't get her. why does she...like...care so much? i guess they went into that more in the books but she came out of no where and was like RENLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY<3<3<3 it was weird.

theon irritates me now... but part of me is hoping he'll stop being such a pompous fool (sort of like renly) and come into his own. i want to root for a sea fucker goddammit!!

but BRAN. BRAN AND DANY. YESSSS<3
bran is being quite the little lord over there, i love it =D
and qarth is sickkk. i'm really liking dany's screen time and that whole thing down there. it's just so cool. i'm so excited to see how everything unfolds there.

i also really liked that guy with the white streak...that was so cool. i wonder who else from the list arya's going to tell him to kill? i'm thinking cersei and joffrey is a little much and she'd probably want to do that personally..

and MMMMMMMM I LOVE ME SOME GENDRY.
i want them together. but there's such an age difference...hahaha idk. i guess we'll see?

also, i really liked arya's little thing. her scenes were awesome this week. i wasn't so happy with them recently but i'm feeling this.

and snow. i'm no longer so swoony over him. haha

i really liked this episode. not as fast as last week but VERY interesting and awesome build up. gahhh i can't wait for next week all ready

I suspect the House of the Undying is going to show up the episode after next.

I hope it doesn't suck. Rhaegar is suppost to have been cast for it. Presumably, Elia Martell is also cast, if the scene holds true to the books. Hopefully they'll get actors appropriate for both. Elia is going to be important for the motives of the Red Viper later, as well as Prince Martell. And Rhaegar seems like he's going to be important as a background character. Even though the Lyanna situation hasn't been conclusively resolved, the characters who remember Rhaegar fondly seem to think highly of him (Jaime, Barristan, even Cersei).

ETA:

NSFW:
If the situation in ASoIaF is based on the War of the Roses, is Jon Snow [Targyaren (R+L=J)] the logical ruler in the end? This bodes ill for Dany and Stannis.

or they'll rule together and get into that whole mild incest thing.
that would be cool.

wolf and dragon.
rawwwrrr
i'm so into that theory of jon snow's birth.

Highlights:
*Ms. Tyrell's "I want to be the queen. Wonderful touch to a character who's much harder to fathom in the books.
*The scene between Arya and Tywin was masterfully suspenseful, and played perfectly by both.
*I was kind of iffy on this Jaqen H'ghar at first, but now I'm fully sold.

Oh, and as one of the few posters who hasn't read the books, Marissa's posts are always fun to read. :)

Well I just got into both the novels/stories and the mini series, though I've heard or known about "a song of ice and fire" for years, as one of my brothers got real into the novels. I started watching the mini-series a month before the second season started, even though I've had the first season in 720p for months and months on my computer. I started reading the novels/stories a couple days ago. I gotta say I'm not disappointed in the mini series or the book series, even with the straying from the books in the mini series. I've never been upset by movies or TV shows being off from the original source, unless it is a clear butchering of the story.

I've been enjoying the second season. I'm excited about the heightened violence from the last season and what not, but really I'm enjoying expanding my understanding of the "world".

Also I've found GOT to show less straight up banging than other HBO mini-series. From what I recall Rome had a lot more scenes purely involving two people going at it. I feel GOT has a lot of sex/sexuality involved in the story in so many different ways, the role of the sexuality in the scenes are deeper than in other HBO series. So in sum, I haven't found it to have to much of sexuality. Honestly I thought they were going softer on the sex scenes compared to other shows. Though I can see that some people will find the type of sexuality/the way it is being expressed to have a problem with the show/novels. There is a lot of rape, incest, etc. that people aren't used to seeing or hearing about, that is supposed to be viewed for the understanding of the stories, so I'm sure a lot of people feel a little awkward watching it happen.

I've spent some time looking online with out spoiling anything, looking for maps, or background info yesterday, as I really started to get into reading the first novel and am trying to figure out locations/wtfigo.

I loved the scene with the exchange between Tywin Lannister and Arya. Very well done!!

".....No my Lord. Anyone can be killed." - Arya -The look she gave him. Priceless!!
