they gave me IV valium when I had my wisdom teeth removed, they were impacted though.
Lot's of ppl experience anxiety at baseline and experience/anticipate experiencing anxiety in situations where they are lacking control (dentist), where they will likely experience pain (dentist), and for the lucky one's who were sexually abused....where someone or more than one someone will be probing an orifice (dentist).
Dentist might not be willing to prescribe but a PCP might be willing to prescribe a benzo as a prn (like 2 pills to be taken before dentist appt) if you explain your particulars to him/her. Dr's do it for people flying, they most def will do it when doing operations on me, even minor 'painless' one's if I require it as a prerequisite to consenting and explain why I need it.
Ironically I have a very high tolerance to pain, with me it comes down to the control issue. I used to disassociate as a coping mechanism when I was a child/teenager. I bet I could still put myself in a place mentally where I could chop off my own finger while staring you coldly in the eye and not even friggin flintch.
But tell me you intend to strap me down to some table and start doing something to me with a bunch of people standing around and I'm either getting some meds, I'm walking out, or some shit is gonna happen that ain't gonna be good for no one if I'm not allowed to just leave. I've given myself stiches. I've pulled a piece of broken glass out my back that was in 6in deep (kinda like in and down, in arond the waiste and down the backside to the bone but like down my ass but way in there, not in my ass, it was in my back behind where my ass is located lol) and taken myslef to the hospital where the whole ER (including the receptionists freaked the f out when they seen me hobble/limp in holding a blood soaked towel against my back and telling them I had a bad gash) and as they were all dropping what htey were doing and clammoring around me to get me on a gurney, etc were telling me I was in a 'call 911' situationk. As long as I"M in control it's cool.
If someone takes control I experience lots of anxiety, like a dentist office. I've gotten better over the years and don't need anxiety meds for that, but I do need them to simply funtion on a daily basis. So get your anxiety meds for your dentist appt, just make sure the dentist knows it b/c of potential drug interactions.
