Thinking of detox/rehab..any advice?

thanks guys i appreciate it but all these great places you guys are naming like in connecticut are kind f far from me (chicago) which i don't know of any detox/rehab facility around me here in chicago with a great rep

It's actually a good idea to get as far away from your home as possible when you go to rehab. One of the realities of rehab is that you will be surrounded by other people like you going through the same struggle, but not everyone will be there for the right reasons (people forced to go by parents, courts, etc). If everyone was from the same area, and the same area as the rehab at that, there would be a lot of temptation to swap phone numbers and trade "what I cannot get" for "the deal you can get" and similar counterproductive stuff. Don't get me wrong, you would probably meet some great people in rehab. But it's extremely dangerous even establishing support networks with people from treatment, because you're all fresh in recovery and can very easily trigger/enable each other. You're much better off getting as much as you can out of rehab, but then keeping your distance from that whole group afterward.

Lucky for you buddy, I'm from southern Illinois so I know of a few treatment facilities in OUR LOVELY AND BEAUTIFUL STATE (/end sarcasm). Chestnut Health Systems is a decent facility, I believe it's in Bloomington which is central IL, not too far, but far enough away. There's also Gateway which is in Springfield IL which is also not too far. I know "alumni" patients from both of these facilities who have 5 or so years clean. Also I believe both of them work on a "sliding scale" payment plan which is adjusted by your income.

Recently I attempted an intensive outpatient program, and the adversarial attitude of the others there created so many problems I abandoned it. It's sad to think not everyone in recovery is there for recovery; you should avoid places that take court orders if you can, OP.

Detox and rehab are two differnt things:

Detox will basically just get you through the process of withdrawal

Rehab is more about making sure you don't use again

In short, detox is before treatment (your combination of drugs will require approx. 6 days of detox, medically supervised). Then you go to treatment, or rehab. Best of luck!
