Obama: ‘I don’t mind debate’ but no to legalizing drugs..........

In regard the structure of government in itself, our version of representative democracy could be much more efficient as a parliament, I think. Proportional parliamentary democracy is a more modern, much more effective alternative to our ingrained and outdated two party system and electoral college.

Proportional representation over our winner takes all system I agree with absolutely, but I am not in favor of a switch to a parliamentary system. Electoral college needs to go, I also think publicly financed campaigns might be a boon.

War on drugs started because of racism.

True fact

It's also FOR THE CHILDREN. The most despicable appeal to emotion there is, I think all people who use it should lose whatever argument they're having by default.

Tired of Democrats getting a pass for stuff like this. If this were happening under Bush, liberals would be forming picket lines from here to Mars. Even though Obama is the president, liberals are still managing to place the blame on Fox News and other conservative groups for backing poor Barack into a corner and bullying him into going along with their evil plan.

I call bullshit.

Obama's profiting off these outrageous laws just like the Repubs. It's a conscious decision on his part, he's not being bullied by big bad Rupert Murdoch or Bill O'Reilly. Get that out of your heads. He is a liar and a traitor to his party, just like many Democrats before him. Nobody wants to admit that the guy they voted for fooled them and screwed the whole country, but if we don't move past that mindset we'll end up with another 4 years of Republicrat reign. I don't care WHO the president is, I only care how he votes. And as we've seen with the Patriot Act, National Defense Authorization Act, medical marijuana raids and countless other scandals in the past 4 years, this guy votes like a hardcore right wing scumbag.

^Keep the current congressional system, just make it so seats of a given state are awarded based off of % of vote in a in the House, rather than a bunch of winner takes all elections per district (we could have districts still, just fewer of them perhaps...). I meant I opposed a parliamentary system as in I prefer a presidential one, with separation of the legislative and executive branches.

There can be a lot of problems as seen in Japan and a few euro countries where Prime Ministers get switched willy-nilly due to a very tenuous coalition of parties supporting them, or because the legislature is full of bitches. (Also let's not forget just how unpopular the legislature is in the US). Our system favors some stability and continuance, a side effect of this also being a relative conservatism/difficulty changing things compared to many other modern democracies, but that's fine by me.

Eh, I think this is the best I can express things, I'm way out of practice and underqualified to have precise opinions or use the most correct terminology available.

Agreed 100%.

Let's hope then that he's a one-term president.

Fair enough, this sounds similar to a semi-presidential parliamentary structure. Personally, I wouldn't mind a bicameral American parliament myself.

OWS, anybody?

I can't decide what I think about Obama...down deep I always think his seemingly irrational decisions are just part of his master plan for a greater good, but i'm starting to lose that faith. He campaigns on change and picks establishment douchebags as his cabinet, concedes way too far to the Republicans in order to get half-assed solutions, and makes ridiculous personal belief claims like "I don't think decriminalization is the answer" when he said just a few years ago that it was.

Maybe he leans more on the establishment side because he doesn't want the public to freak out and think that this black man with the middle name Hussein is going to radically change their country and incite panic. Maybe he gets half-assed solutions because they're better than nothing. Maybe he reversed his position on MMJ raids because he was trying to save face with conservatives.

But you know what? I didn't elect a man that ran on "Fuck it, lets keep it the same because we have too many constraints and political risks". I elected a man that ran on CHANGE. I don't care if your ideas are viewed as radical and you're torn apart for them...have some goddamn backbone and stand up for what you believe. It's bullshit that tons of people are going to prison being responsible US citizens that just like to enjoy life in a different way, all because Obama wants to win some political points.

Sure, maybe its all a part of his grand plan to enact change within his means. But at this point I don't care. Get a fucking spine.

Well, I think legalizing pot (especially medical recognition and standardization into the CS-III or even II) would help the issue with drug cartels. Drug cartel violence is a serious threat to the American way of life and our freedom. Will medical legalization or even federal decriminalization be the answer to the cartels? In my honest opinion, no, but its a damn good start. Make the black market of America less attractive for drug cartels. Make it so that all pot is homegrown for legal medical purposes. No doubt crack and heroin will still be transported by the cartels, but with at the least, the US BP will be focused on real drugs like crack and heroin.

If I had an infinite supply of pharmaceutical grade heroin - I think I'd start up again. I'd sure as hell use it instead my daily methadose.

Although, I'd be content if we would be allowed to grow/harvest/ingest any plant we wanted to. I've yet to try smoking opium with weed. That would be my way of winding down after a day's work. Sigh.

It doesn't make sense to me that our government is still so quick to shoot down an almost sure solution to somewhat stabilize our economy, lower crime rate, and save millions of dollars on the state and federal level, a 100% safe, reliable, and natural pain killer, with such highly proven results from pain patients. Theres is no reason for marijuana to be illegal.

Think of all the lawyers, judges,DAs, courts, etc. they basically live off people committing crimes. And then you have privatized prisons= more people in prison which means more money for them. ALOT of players want drugs to remain illegal and our government is a game, which is won by the highest bidder.

And whoever said the war on drugs was started by racism you are completely right, look up a guy named HARRY ANSLINGER

Obama has failed to deliever on his message, Mitt Romney is a flip-flopping wallaby that just goes with whoever has the most money.... Our only hope is Ron Paul for president!

I think it'll be interesting to see what stance he takes next year when he doesn't have to appease the right-wing fuckheads to get re-elected.

Yikes, and here I am being told that right-wingers are the party of hate and vitriol? This does not fit in with the narrative set forth by the media.

Agreed

Furthermore, civil liberties are subject to greater scrutiny under Republican presidents. Ex: Drone strikes under Bush were war crimes and murders, drone strikes (say, on a US citizen in Yemen) under Obama are strategic military moves.

I would just like to throw in

everyone is aware that this is a psychology maneuver that appears to be working very well, from reading this forum.
He started harassing the medical marijuana because he understand's he cant be too liberal or he will never get re-elected.
he has to appeal to both sides as much as possible since re-election is coming up.
If bill o'reilly and all those other Fox News channel reporters really start trashing on overly "socialist" things , he has probably lost a SHIT TON of votes.
Politics sucks, and either explanation can work. all i know is, we will have to wait and see, and I think he would be better than the alternative......romney....

I won't be surprised if the second he gets re-elected, he just stops with the bullshit, cause hey, it doesnt matter if the right wing is angry or not.
:)
a few states are having votes to legalize marijuana next voting season, which then would kinda rule out the medical marijuana thing.
so in a way it wouldn't matter.........

these are all my opinions and im not trying to be a jerk
=D
