Is it possible that a good deal of tolerance is purely mental?

Just a random musing. On Friday I took about 150 mg of methylone whereas normally I'll take double that to get me rolling and it hit me rather hard, which I wasn't expecting. About an hour ago, I took 30 mg of Adderall IR when normally I'll take 90-120 mg to feel anything and I feel pretty spun, not like boom out of this world spun but I definitely feel something. Is it possible that a good deal of tolerance is in our minds?

well you become used to the effects of drugs so psychologically you're not as blown away, but true tolerance is the downregulation of receptors or something, its physical at any rate.

get high in an unfamiliar environment or one you've never gotten high in before, and see what happens ;)

^I think they mean any causality regarding drugs effecting people more in unfamiliar places versus correlation of people taking more drugs in foreign places. Either way not getting caught up in the excitement of a vacation nor the nerves of meeting new people by overdosing on drugs is good advice.

That's terrible advice even as a joke dude. That's been known to lead to fatal OD's.
i think you may be over reacting. the articles you cite aren't even related to the drug you're asking tolerance questions about, but even if you were using opiates, your body/brain would still thank you for getting high on less by doing it in a novel environment, i think...

to more directly answer your question, "Is it possible that a good deal of tolerance is in our minds?", obviously yes if environment plays a role. and you already had the articles that say so, it seems :S

My question was about tolerance in general. Sorry, I may have over-reacted. Your comment just triggered a bad association in my mind.

He's right.

Also: Trip in a comfy place, or trip in a Terror House (or some such)... same effect in essence. Or hospital vs. sick event. I'd be off my nuts MORE at the hospital or something than the show I was raging at.

Who's the "he" in this scenario?

o think that with some drugs and I would put Methylone in this category that the first once or twice has a novelty factor that you can never gain back, you don't know what the effects are going to be so ther is always going to be a loss of some of the intrigue and magic of the initial experience. This isn't tolerance you will only get that from repetitive and regular use.

I took MDMA every week for about 8 years and yes I did get a level of tolerance and did take higher doses but not to a massive extent like you would if you took Benzos everyday or similar. I think this is what you were asking ?
