I am not asking how to smuggle or import any illegal substances. Let's say someone decided to mail some pills to the united states. Not a huge quantity, just 10 for personal use.

If customs found these, what would happen?

I am not condoning this, just curious as to what would happen.
 
I believe there are cases of people accidentally being mailed drugs, as far as I know nothing really happened to them. If they have proof the person was expecting them or ordered them that's probably a different story though.

I have had headache medicine mailed to me from europe before and it was confiscated because it had codeine in it, they sent me a letter but I just never answered it. Pretty sure they wouldn't send a letter for illegal drugs though =p

I'm no expert...but I think, at worst, whoever the mail was addressed to would
get a love letter from customs saying something like:
"We got your mail..na na na na na..."

We're not lawyers, and even if we were, we are certainly not your lawyer. Bluelight isn't here to help you engage in illegal activities.
 
Obviously you would lose the shipment, and then depending on how desperate whoever found them is for promotion you would get a warning letter, or even a home visit.
Whatever, you would likely be in an embarrassing situation.
