I take oxy orally.....I was just wondering why people smoke it.....does it give you a different/stronger effect or something?

There is no point to smoking oxycodone.

The only reason I can see for people doing it is because they are addicted to smoking just like some people are addicted to IV'ing.

It can gives a "rush" similar in a sense to the rusk you get when shooting (of course smoking vs shooting is waaaaay different, but the quickness of the effects are similar in either case - from one source, I've been told smoking actually hits you faster than shooting, although the rush you get once the effects hit you when shooting is MUCH strong than that when you're smoking - but as far as I know this is just hearsay, although when I smoke heroin I can also feel the effects faster than when I were to shoot it, so I guess I grant this theory some weight), but there are a lot of ifs...

To smoke it you'd need a pill with just oxycodone and nothing else (i.e. you can't/shouldn't be smoking your percocets). Furthermore, to my knowledge you can't smoke the new OP oxycotins. But other than those, yea, you can smoke it and get a quicker onset of the drug than eating or snorting it. The high won't last as long and it is not a very effective way to use your oxy, at least until you get your method down just right.

It's kind of gross, like smoking heroin. All the positives and negatives apply to both. Frankly, although I love to smoke heroin, I hated smoking oxy. I'd much rather eat it, sniff it or shove it up my bum =D

Yes, but as Marcy Marc states, it would seem that most who do it are more addicted to the whole smoking thing, the foil, the straw, etc. etc. than they are the effects.

Certainly, I got waaaaaay more out of eating, snorting or shoving oxy up my bum than I ever did smoking it. In some places (North County San Diego in the mid 2000's) smoking the old OC's actually turned into something of a status thing, cause only some kids could afford to burn through their supply as they would waste a lot of their drug by smoking it...

yeah because shoving it up your ass is so much more normal than smoking something. Seriously though its a waste of a pill and harsh as fuck. Ive tried it once and it will get you a quicker high but it also goes away quicker so its not worth it. insuffalation only takes like 10-15 minutes longer to feel it but Id say it lasts a couple hours more too

^actually you'd be surprised, very surprised, at how many people take drugs rectally. I mean, from coffee enemas to plugging mdma, it's a wonderful way to ingest your DOC (most of the time at least).

It's an opportunity to get a "rush" w/o tracks ,so your Doc wont see 'em and cancel your script, if you're averse/unable to plug and/or insuffilate. (like me. But I'm averse to smoking too)
Personally I think it's wasteful and lasts shorter. I never tried it personally, but from trip reports Ive heard, usually not worth it.

However, to each his own. Some people have more money than they know what to do with or are just very particular about their habits. I honestly know no HR techniques for this.

From experience, anytime I had to vaporize something, I always made into a solution, then transfered it to a refillable e-cig filter.

^For those with a limited supply/funds or just those who are more frugal or OCD like me =D this is a great idea. Making your DOC into solution to use and store I mean, even if you're not planning to inject it.

Then again, when it comes to intranasal (probably my method of choice whenever possible) drug use, I prefer snorting a line of powder to getting on my back and letting an aqueous solution absorb into my mucus membrane...

To back up toothpastedog,
Taking drugs rectaly is pretty common, they even make certain pills as suppositorys. Anyway, smoking oxy is stupid and wasteful. The truth is that even injecting oxy does not produce a rush, so I can't imagine smoking it would.

That's right bro, back that shit up ;) =D

anyways, Zneg is right, I have a hard time describing the feeling so I said, "rush," but it is inherently different from an IV heroin rush or IV meth "rush/cough." Still though, I just can't think of a better word to describe the extreme fast come up of smoking oxy/heroin. Any suggestions?

Everyone here who said there's a rush is wrong. Oxycodone possesses zero rushing qualities.
Even IV'd. TPD the words your looking for is onset of action.

Smoking pills is retarded, very harmful to your health with zero return.

People smoke oxy because they usually want a faster onset of action and want a rush. Oxy is almost impossible to get a true ”rush” from. Once one tries certain other opiates (usually by IV) this becomes explicitly clear. Smoking oxy was pretty big here in FLA for a while until ppl realized it was an almost complete waste along with the negative health implications. Oral oxy is superior trust me you're not missing out on a thing.

EDIT: and crack lung doesn't even compare to smoking to many pills for too long

It is harmful to your health. However, I have tried smoking oxycodone pills. Oxycodone and oxymorphone are/were my drugs of choice for the past 3 to 4 years so I am not incompetent when it comes to the high. I just recently began smoking the pills, through curiosity. I must say, it DOES allow you to feel high with less product. I usually need 2 to 3 oxycodone 30mg pills to feel that enveloping warmth. With smoking, I am able to feel that warmth with 2 pills. The trick, is to alternate between smoking a small amount, and doing a regular (for you) sized line. As long as you are alternating, you can keep the nice high feeling going.. where-as if you were only able to afford 2 pills, and need 3, only blowing the 2 pills will not get you where you'd like to be. You can't smoke both pills without doing any lines and expect to be high much longer than the process of smoking the pills. I'd say each key-bump sized line lasts 5 to 8 min. with a tapering off at the 5min mark. There-for it is essential to (alongside smoking small amounts) ingest orally, nasally, through IV, or anally should you prefer a longer and more drawn-out high to a quick nod. If you are looking for a 20min nod, then by all means, smoke the dose you would normally blow. (slowly at first) You are essentially sacrificing length of high for intensity. You are also sacrificing relative safety for bodily harm. *This is the TRUTH!* Smoking does harm the lungs and I have read that it can (and has caused) cause permanent damage to the respiratory system. Be advised! Although I have just given directions for sustaining a high achieved through smoking narcotics, I do not recommend you actually do this. (and especially not often, should you decide to try it at all)

Yes, also a good point to make that smoking oxy is probably, next to shooting it, the worst way to use it. And even then, if you properly prepare your solution for injection, and do everything just right, smoking might even be more unhealthy than shooting. Just maybe...

Yarr!!!

It's subjective. The vast majority of people don't get a rush from IVing oxycodone, but a small percentage of people do, although they report it to be less intense than other IV opiate rushes. I've had trusted, experienced users say that they got a rush from IVing oxycodone, I believe that Leftwing was one of them.

The same goes for smoking it, or any drug for that matter. Some people that smoke heroin get a rush from it, and then some do and some don't get a rush from smoking oxycodone.

Even for the people that get a rush from smoking the oxycodone, most of them say that it isn't worth it due to the very short high and the amount that gets wasted, so people that don't get a rush from it definitely don't think it's worth it, and rightfully so. Add in the fact that it's very bad for you to inhale the fumes from pills, and the answer from a harm reduction standpoint is that you should never smoke them since the negative effects far outweigh the positive effects.

GREAT post!

Always good to keep in mind how subjective the effects of drugs are. Everyone's effected, and/or understand these effects, differently.

I realize it's subjective but I still don't think oxycodone possesses any rushing action. From what I've seen, people who claim it does tend not to have experienced a real rush like HM/OM.

I think they're just experiencing a rapid onset of action, and calling that a rush.

This is very likely. I mean, at the end of the day I cannot imagine the "rush" experience from smoking or shooting oxy to be nearly as intense as from heroin. But for someone who hasn't experience IV heroin, even though it's a more subjective characterization, I don't think it's totally invalid for some lucky fellow to experience a kind of rushing sensation when IVing oxy, even if it really is technically just a rather extreme onset of action.

You'd classify the effect from shooting meth as a rush, yes? Iono, that always how I thought of it. Well, more like coughing rush ;)

IV methamphetamine absolutely constitutes a rush. What do you mean?
methamphetamine can give you a rush by other ROAs as well. I got an insane rush vaporizing one hit of crystal the other day, it was one of the most over powering experiences I've had with it to date.

Even when I was opiate naive, shooting big amounts of oxycodone produced nothing I would call a rush.
