Hi, I am new to this site. I have been on Oxycontin for about 8 years after being in an accident. Which was the worst day of my life and changed my life forever. My doctor started my out on oxycocets. And after while it wasn't working and he got me up to Oxycontin 20 mg 3 times a day. Well now my bad doctor has gotten me up to 40mg 6 times a day. When i was taking them I wasn't the same. I want my old life back. I want to laugh and be happy. I got my script a couple weeks ago and I have honestly only taken maybe 10 of them. I am trying to stay away from them. But anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a different medication that will keep the pain away and let me live my life. Also especially ones without severe withdrawls. After my last withdrawal i swore to myself that will never happen to me again. I am getting to old and its not easy. Please help me and message me I do not ever want to take oxycontin again and if you not a suitable medication for me please let me know. Thank you very much
Joe

Have you talked about this situation with your doctor? They have your medical history. They can advise you far better than any of us can.

Thank you for replying. Yes actually I have and I got my son to look it up. The doctor wanted me to go on this patch. It was called Fentanyl. But my son noticed that if you go out in the sun it can really harm you. And the happiest days I have is playing with my grandchildren outside. We love going fishing together. I was just asking on here to see if anyone was in a simliar case and would know the truth. These damn doctors just want to make money. They really don't care about me or he wouldn't have put me on oxycontin. A couple of days ago I was going to go bring all my medicine back to the doctor and ask him to for a different kind of medicine. I was told by family that their are websites out there with people in my situations and ask some other people what they have done. And so here I am. Thank you for replying

You should ask your doctor to refer you to a pain specialist. Seeing as your already pretty far up the opiate scale i don't think any other pain management methods are going to work. The patch may actually be a good idea for you. But still, try to get to see a specialist. Maybe there is other things like operations that might help you (obviously i don't know what is physically wrong with you so this is just a very wide ranging guess).

I have been to many pain specialists through my day. Last time i seen a pain specialist was almost two years ago. Thanks for the advice I am going to go into my doctor and give him all my oxycontins back and tell him to set an appointment with a pain specialist for me. Maybe it will be a different one and he can help me out better. I hope. Are you prescribed oxycontin also?. Thank you for the advice

I'm not but i am a chronic pain sufferer, i'm currently on pain management and avoided the opiate path. But thats because i didn't have an accident which required strong painkillers which leads to the path you are on.

Don't just completely stop your medication, that is very bad for your body. A specialist is an expert in the matter, they will give you the best advice for your condition. But don't expect it to be without side effects. To take the pain away comes with a consequence because you need very strong medication. You just need to weigh out the pros and cons and make sure it's worth the amount of pain it takes away.

Be very honest about how you feel with the specialist and they can find what is most suitable for you.

I've been prescribed most of the opiates, and let me say a few things:
1) Fentanyl works for some, but not for most, it is one of the most dangerous, flimsiest meds out there. I don't have a source backing this up but I can say with 99% certainty that fentanyl causes the most accidental overdoses compared to the other opiates. I've lost family and friends to this drug, some were abusing it, some were using it as prescribed. As your son mentioned, heat can release huge amounts of fentanyl and is one of the many major drawbacks of fentanyl patches.

2) Unfortunately most opiate pain relievers will have bad withdrawals. In fact, the better the pain relief, usually the worse the W/D. Fentanyl W/D is probably the worst WD I've ever experienced, followed by Opana. Plus, fentanyl users regularly experience W/D on a regular basis while waiting for the new patch to start working, and rely on their breakthrough medication to get through this hellish few hours.

3) 40mg q4h = 240mg Oxycodone per day. If you switch to another medication, make SURE that the bioavailabilities match up. Oxycodone is very well absorbed orally, so make sure your prescribing physician is aware that, for example, if you switch to Opana (a much more potent opiate) that your doctor takes into consideration Opana only gets around 10% absorbed taken orally.

An afterthought, as a fellow pain patient: You're already taking larger doses of oxycodone at frequent intervals (every 4 hours), I wonder if you could use oxymorphone IR (Opana IR or preferrably the generics) on the same schedule.

Thanks for replying. What is opana? After my last withdrawal when i ran out I don't know how because i never take more than I should. My friend told me maybe someone close to me was taking them from me. But sincethat withdrawal i barely even have taken them. It has been hard but since I was sick for several days i think it made it easier. I just never want to go through that again. But since then I havn't been taking the dose i am suppose to. I have almsot my full script left. I will ask my doctor about oxymorphone, I already wrote it down thank you very much for the advice. Do my pills have an expiry date will they be bad since I have only taken around 10 since i got them. I am even even suppose to go get my refill in 18 days. Should i bring them back to my doctor and give him them or throw them out. Back to the oxymorphone. It sounds like its the same as oxycontin. Is it? Have you taken both of them and if so what is the difference. I really appreciate all of you replying thank you very much

ok. Thank you very much I will go look into that webiste that you provided for me. Are you prescribed wild opium. If so can you tell me about it also. I will look at website also but to learn the truth and most of medication is through someone who is prescribed it themself. Thank you very much for replying

I don't know how this person got my email but he or she emailed me and he said he seen me in this website. And he wanted to purchase my medication. He said he read I was being stupid for wanting to give them back to my doctor. Would my doctor be mad or is there any consequences for returning my medication?

Ignore any messages like that. Unless you want to become a drug dealer? And you are welcome to return any unused meds to the pharmacy at any time. They actually ask that that is done with leftover drugs.

there are legal less harsh opiots like wild opium see nosourcingonbluelight*.com for alternatives

plus, this guy has severe pain and is very opiate dependent and has been for 8 years.... this wouldn't touch him.

Oxymorphone = Opana just like Oxycodone = Oxycontin.

Opana and OxyContin are just brand names for the opiates they contain. Opana ER used to be a great alternative to OxyContin, much more potent and lasts longer. However, since they recently changed the formulation of Opana ER, I do not recommend it as you will certainly have problems with W/D when transferring over with a 240mg OC tolerance. The instant release version of Oxymorphone is available and may last long enough for you to replace your existing oxycontin regimine, although I'm not completely sure as everyone's different and Oxymorphone may not last 4 hours for you, although it easily does for me.

Thank you very much for the information Tricomb. and thank you to all the others caring and helping me out. I will keep you informed on what happens with my doctor. I am going to go in Monday and talk with him. I am really tired and am going to go to sleep. Thanks again friends, I learned so much from all of you within minutes that I have not learned in my life. Thanks again Hope to talk to all of you again. Take care

Best of luck to you!
Another one to bring up, since I see your in canada would be HydromorpContin (Hydromorphone)

I recommend this drug OVER opana, as it comes in a time release version as well as instant release, so you could replace your oxycontin regimine completely with HydromorphContin.
