one of the things i love to do is freestyle rapping or singing while tripping. you can come up with the most deranged/violent/depraved shit. or some really truly romantic love songs depending on the mood.
regardless of what your experiences are even a friend's fictional lyrics are pretty poignant. im not saying drugs make you a better musician if you suck you suck. but for those that already have some ability it make's their improvisational performance something cosmic!

id imagine that improv comedy would also be a fun while tripping. some of the jokes my friends tell me while they are tripping just trip me out sober. there should be a genre of comedy; psychedelic comedy. haha

but back to the topic at hand
a close friend of mine who is in texas battle league says a lot of contestants take drugs before battle rap contests. i wonder if this could be considered performance enhancing. not sure i agree with it i know a ton of homies that pop ecstasy and adderal to free flow better.
i wonder if theres a new type of psychedelic rapper. if there is why is it new? or is it some well kept secret? do any of you hip hop lovers enjoy tripping and passing around the mike?
 
My friend who introduced me to mushrooms, also introduced me to Deltron 3030. We listened to that album dozens of times tripping, stoned, and sober, and I loved the sweeping portrait that it painted.

Well-done rap is certainly a psychedelic-worthy combination of poetry and sound that has the chance to be really epic.
 
Had an awesome experience with this recently. Have a friend that is just an excellent rapper - really talented with lyrics and his delivery and attack is wonderful. Anyway, got back from a night out - had been to a trance night. We had all had 5 and 6APB and were all tripping to a certain extent - he and I probably the most out of the group. He puts on these beats and just starts up with a track about his son and then another and another. Oh my! His lyrics were just swirling and spiraling around me, inside my head. The beats, the lyrics everything just merged into a sonic fractal (does that make sense?) - crazy.

Hip-hop and tripping will go well together. I find aggressive lyrics difficult if I'm honest but I understand their reason for being.
 
Kool keith is kinda cool to listen to while trippping.
Oh and so is outkast, devin the dude, kamillionare, fatpat, and of course atmosphere, eminem, jay z, lil flip.
I like hip hop when tripping.

yes listening to music and tripping have long since gone hand in hand.
but i guess i was trying to ask....

have any of you ever started a freestyle cypher with buddies while tripping as a group. you know....just throw on an instrumental on youtube on someone's phone and just huddle around and spit the weirdest shit imaginable?
 
I used to listen to Das EFX and Mobb deep while I was tripping. Also if you want psychedelic hiphop you could try Noah23 the album Cytoplasm Pixel, it grows on you but its not the best. Also Eyedea is good, try his albums.

Theres other hiphop I love while tripping, Jedi son of spock, MF Doom, Jedi Mind Tricks, RZA, MF Grimm, Non Phixionand a few others. I like to stick to more up beat music while tripping though so hiphop and 'triphop' dont really get listened to while I am tripping.
If I am just chilling though and I could see how it would be great while tripping, The Premonist, Wizard of Odd, Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, Smoke City. More ambient shit, Boards of Canda, Glen Porter, Crookram, Shlomo. Some of the best music to listen to while your tripping =D
 
Check out Edan's album Beauty and the Beat, especially the track "I See Colours". It's the first thing that came to mind when I read this topic.
 
Yeah i mc and produce and i trip frequently. Ive flowed and made music sober, and on any number of drugs. I find the best stuff comes sometimes on drugs, or sometimes not, drugs arent the only factor or even the most important,, but one of many.

Edit: to clarify, ive tripped alot, but i really only trip a few times a year anymore. Although lately ive been playing with 6apb and mxe (seperately) and synth noids and i find them all inspiring generally both creatively and otherwise.

Oo I love doseone. At times you have to read the lyrics along with listening to fully absorb it. He's very poetic, I've been graced with meeting him once. :)
 
Cool man, never heard of Esham before, really liked it. Love Jedi Mind tricks, MF Doom and Edan to name a few...
 
Esham is one of the OG pioneers of Detroit rap. Tongues, A-1 Yola, & Dead Flowerz are my favorite albums he's released. I got to see JMT in Chicago a couple years ago. Great live show.

Nothing recorded as yet ... that will change. He is currently working on lyrics for a track produced by my girlfriend. Some really good beats.

Laika - thanks so much for Jedi Mind Tricks. Love 'Omnicron' but 'As it was in the Beginning' is just insane. Such fantastic attack and syncopation.
