I switched from subutex to vicodin for pain for 1 month. I was taking 20mg hydro a day spread out. The sub wds went away while on the hydro but i never nodded or anything. How bad will the wd from hydrocodone 20mg per day for 1 month be? i just want to stop now and not go back to sub.

Thanks.

I wouldn't think that the w/d from 20mg. hydro a day will be too awful.
You'll probably still have a week of belly and sleep issues.
If you're one of the ppl who are able to taper, I'm sure 15mg for a couple days, then 10 for a couple...etc..
will help with being uncomfortable.
I would think you'd need some immodium on hand.

Good luck to you!

20mg hydrocodone/day for a month -> sub will be easier than the sub -> hydrocodone switch you already made. You'll be fine mate. As token says, you might want to stock up on some loperamide and diphen, but even then, if you're about to get back on sub you won't really experience much in terms of w/d.

good luck mate!

~2-300mg Dextromethorphan HBr will help with withdrawal symptoms as well...at least it helps me when I run out of tramadol early...

edit: and I would recommend doxylamine over diphenhydramine for sleep...it does me better at least...and don't be afraid to take 50mg doxylamine (or 100mg of diphenhydramine) if the recommended doses don't work...I have to take 50-75mg of doxylamine when I take it for insomnia...

Since you don't plan on getting back on suboxone, try to taper off for 3 days (15, 10, 5) and you'll have about five days stomach cramps, body aches, hot/cold flashes maybe. You may not even get those if you were only on hydrocodone. Good luck!

OH1 sorry, I misread your post op. Yea, if you tolerate dxm I'd highly suggest that. search dxm opioid withdrawal. it's amazing what 230mg can do - totally take away your w/ds, that is, assuming you don't mind being fucked up fom dxm.

otherwise get some immodium, something to help you sleep, and gatorade or something to hydrate yourself with. coming off 20mg hydro for a month isn't going to be fun, but, even cold turkey, it wouldn't be thaaaat bad. you'll feel like shit for a week, but then you'll notice a quick improvement.

^^yea, absolutely taper if you can. requires a bit more willpower but works way better in terms of quality of life shit

Yeah i have been trying to taper down but i usually end up tapering forever.. haha

well, just c/t it then. you'll come out the strong man/woman. and imho, hot bathes during the w/d is a must! that and, at least in my case, the dxm (it's amazing how well the dxm works).

let us know how you're doing, okay OP? Best wishes!!!!

Oh yeah, I completely understand that. Well, if tapering doesn't work for you (and it doesn't for some people) cold turkey with some DXM and over-the-counters (as suggested above) might be the right way to go. :)

I personally get the 4 oz bottles of robitussin that comes in the blue box and says 'Long-Acting Cough' and I just down the whole thing (360mg) as it's nothing but alcohol, dex, and inactives...

edit: getting some dramamine might also help to depress your CNS as it will be used to being depressed (as opposed to stimulated). I personally take 4-8, but that makes some people REALLY drowsy...

I've heard dramamine can be really dangerous if you take more than recommended, and therefore have never tried this... can anyone tell me if this is true?

I like coming here..somebody always makes me laugh..

bben!I'm constantly tapering too!
and here I thought I was the only one!;)

Hope you've found your answer

I don't understand why so many people recommend diphenhydramine during withdrawals. It intensifies the RLS 10x, IME. Doxylamine surprisingly doesn't for me however.

Well, it helps me to rest..not so much sleep during w/d..but I take it
all the time to help with sleep regardless..
and it seems to help with the runny nose..sinus like symptoms also.
Too much diphenhydramine will cause RLS and a skin-crawling feeling
whether during w/d or not..IME.
We're all different and react differently, though.
