any kind of anti depressant like ambien?

Anyone know if there is an anti depressant like ambien? aside from
the obvious benzos?
 
There's a few old Anti Depressants that will sedate you.

Trazadone, Amitriptyline, Mirtazapine are a few that spring to mind.
 
There are sedating anti-depressants. Most tricyclic anti-depressants, trazadone, mirtazapine and some others. I wouldn't liken any of them to Ambien, though, which is not an anti-depressant, but rather a "z-drug" which is quite like a benzo in structure and effect.

Hey no one said they actually helped depression just that they were prescribed for it;)

Mirtazapine didn't sedate me at all, I juts felt like I was coming upon acid the whole time, and not in a good way:\
 
um derp? So if benzos are anti depressants because they make you feel good, any euphoric drug is. What is the point of this thread, op get some information together before starting a thread.

Go easy on him, he's new to the forum and obviously not as informed as some others on here. ;)

Benzos are not Anti-Depressants (AFAIK) they help relieve anxiety, insomnia etc which are in a lot of cases inextricably linked with depression, there may lay the confusion in what the OP is saying?

For instance my G.P diagnosed me as having major depression due to severe Anxiety, id never touched an Anti-Depressant in my life before my G.P prescribed me them yet i had self medicated with Benzos for a long time which did in the short term help with my Depressed feeling due to the relief they gave me from Anxiety.

PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING: Do not self medicate with Benzos, 2 1/2 years down the line and 9 Months of Citalopram, Sertraline and now Venlafaxine im feeling worse than i can recall in a long time.

Btw im still battling Benzo addiction... Im just not what my drug councillor call an Atypical case due to my infrequent/sporadic chronic abuse they have no idea how to work out a taper-reduction plan! Ive dug myself a massive hole and a tolerance that would kill many people who do not have a Benzo tolerance (This is what worries me the most) I take 1 step forward and then 2 steps back.

OP im not trying to scaremonger just giving a brief account of my experiences.

Please go see a G.P/Health professional because i fear for anybody who would follow in my tracks.
