Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne has announced a common ingredient in party pills is being banned and should be off the market in early April.

The Temporary Class Drug Notice has been placed on DMAA (1,3-dimethylamylamine), which will be the 21st substance banned under last year’s drug law amendments.

Mr Dunne says DMAA, which has been linked to increased blood pressure, headaches and vomiting, is “the first substance other than a synthetic cannabinoid to be banned using the temporary notices”.

“I think this decision demonstrates the wider use of Temporary Class Drug Notices to protect the health and well being of New Zealanders… it is not just about party pills and synthetic cannabis.”

The notice means that all products containing DMAA will effectively be banned, and must be removed from shelves and no longer sold over the internet in New Zealand from April 9.

Banning substances rather than individual projects means Government avoid “chasing around after individual products in a never-ending game of catch-up,” Mr Dunne says.

“It is proving to be very effective legislation and has virtually completely nailed the synthetic cannabis industry.”

... Well then.

If this came into effect in AUS would that mean we would no longer be able to purchase the Pre-workout 'jack3d'? and any other pre-workout containing DMAA? Not that i use Jack3d, i am just curious :)

Well it's not really recreational, it's nice when you need a few hours of energy and focus though. Think caffeine, but a little stronger and a fraction of the cost. I used to carry around a small bag and sniff a small bit whenever I got tired, back when I was trying to fix my sleep cycle so I wasn't awake all night.

I agree that it's still not a huge loss, but seems silly to ban it when it will ineveitably be replaced by someting else more dangerous.

It costs a lot more than caffeine though, and yeah the products containing it will be banned. Most of the pre workout manufacturers are removing it anyway due to it being pretty useless and giving a few unwanted side effects that bodybuilders like myself dont want. Im not sad to see it go although it does annoy me a little that its being banned, virtually everything that has an affect gets banned. So you say its a dangerous substance? What about cigarettes and alcohol?? Im really sick of the government and their stupid decisions. Who are these people making these idiotic decisions anyway? Like seriously. The more I read and see about the government the more I learn and know. Can see through them completely. Was just thinking why dont we have an RDT for cocaine? Maybe because politicians or alike use them too?? Makes you really wonder eh.
