The trouble with that is that the transparency will only last for as long as the polish on each grain. More surface roughness = less transparent. Make it out of something hard enough that it won't scratch easily, and you'll wind up with something that looks more sparkly than transparent, due to refraction of light. Neat idea, but difficult to do.
ATM: Bleh. My grandma gave me lovingly made beet leaf rolls when I saw her on the weekend, and for some reason I thought that it would be a good idea to bake them in coconut milk rather than the usual cream, and eat them for lunch. Nothing but white rice and fat, really.
