My benzo tolerance

In my head
There's no doubt about it, I have a very high benzo tolerance. When I take the 4mg alprazolam my doc gives me every other day then SOMETIMES I feel slightly relaxed, other times I feel nothing. But that's not what I want to talk about.

When I first started out taking benzos, which would be flunitrazepam primarily, I would get really cozy and comfortable. With my high tolerance, would it be possible to achieve a similar effect simply by taking much larger doses? I'm asking because I'm considering getting med some benzos along with the 4mg alprazolam today.

I know this is not exactly HR, so let's just take it as a hypothetical question. I won't be mixing them with alcohol or opiates or anything for that matter.

To give you an idea of my tolerance: 25mg nitrazepam and 30mg bromazepam got me relaxed to a point where it might have been placebo.

so you have a high tollerance and want to know if taking a high dose will give you the desired effects?
yes

Am I missing something?

I went down this route until i was taking handfulls and handfulls of Benzos every weekend, and mixing them to, i didnt matter to me about the strength of the equivilant Benzo etc i just gobbled hundreded away in the end, whether they be Alprazolam - Temazepam - Diazepam - Nitrazepam the list goes on...... Yet i was still taking hundreds, iT didnt matter they were all just pills with similar effects, i became that dependant and my tolerance was that high it just spiralled to the point of being ridicuously out of control.

I can now go out take 10's and 10's of any Benzo with hardly any noticeable effect :(

Im not trying to scaremonger just a warning of the pitfalls that can be ahead.

Okay... But pally pete's answer is practically the opposite of FlippingTop's who says taking a higher dose of benzos will give an effect. So which one is it? :? You can see how I'm a little confused. Other people are welcome to chip in :)

thats no big deal. takes me over 100mg of diaz to feel anything. try not to fucking take large doses every day.
ive never experienced benzos wd & I still abuse them quite regularly. just try to have breaks for like a week or so.

benzos are one of the hardest drugs to get off. but i find them really hard to get addicted to on the other hand

But how long do you think it would take for my tolerance to drop significantly? I have taken a week long break before but that didn't help much, perhaps a little but that's it. Would a month suffice?

1 - 2 months and i usually notice a drop in tolerance.

Also alopogies if my post initial confused you some what, it's just that when it comes to Benzo use im an EXTREME case! I just wouldn't wish what ive been through/am going through on my worst enemy.

Best of luck.

Stay safe ;)

If you are up to it, I would like to hear your story so I can compare it to my own (and I don't consider myself your worst enemy, so... =D)

I'm currently on 110mgs a day of Diaz as part of a slow taper having been on high dosing for a good few months I'm deliberately breaking this up into 2 doses so I don't get anything much off of it. Tolerance just goes sky high so quick and I've stopped a couple of time before over the last 18months-2 years for at least 6-8 weeks. I think like allot of things the more you do them the more the tolerance remains.

Some of this is probably explainable by someone who knows their brain chemistry better than me, but i also think there is a psychological element with all drugs in this respect, you get used to the hit and so want more from it, what might have been satisfying at sometime is no longer enough so we take more and the round and round we go. Personaly I think once you've over done it on Benzos there is no way back to occasional use or the total loss of the tolerance you have built up

I only take Diaz due to its easy and cheap availability and the advantages of its long half life, but once I go beyond th 150mgs a day area I go into smartie (not sure you have these in the states, there sweets/candy)mode and just take stupid amounts, I'm not even counting by that stage or rather I'm counting what I have left so I don't run out.

I had enough of it personally and am determined to break this cycle and get off them this time for good, they do me no good in th long run its just another daily habit I've managed to get into, a list of many that have come and gone over the years.

My version sounds like a miniature version of what you are going through. I didn't get the sweets/candy part. What do you mean by that? Is it slang for drugs or do you get the munchies after eating X amount of benzos?

Im in the same boat been getting 2 mg xanax for past 2 yrs and now when i get them filled i eat them like candy usually go thru 90 in about 9 or 10 days then i have to buy just enough off street to keep from having a seizure which iv had on regular basis and im on tegeteral a seizure med and it dont help if i dont have some kind of benzo i will have a seizure

It's more than possible to get off.

6 months ago I was on 12mg xanax, 120mg diazepam and 2mg flunitrazepam daily and that was just what I was RX'd...

100% benzo clean now. Yeah I had a few seizures, but I got clean in the end.

But does that mean that taking 0.5 or perhaps 1mg alprazolam would send you to the moon? And does it really take six months? I mean Alprazolam, which is the benzo I take mainly, has a short half life.

I have noticed that about xanax.. Tolerance develops so damn quick.. if you take it daily even if you are taking like 10mg daily, it starts to do absolutely jack shit excep tmaybe slightly help wtih anxiety and sleep. Like I will not have used for a month and after 3 or 4 days of taking 2-6mg daily the magic is already gone.

He meant he starts eaten em like candy and gets outa control

Exactly I stop counting out what I'm taking, I just keep dosing bigger and bigger doses, all I'm keeping an eye on is how many I have left so I don't run out, not pretty at all.

Hey Tripman, I know what a full on seizure looks like as i have a relative who has been brain damage from birth, can you give some kind of description of what kind of seizures you suffered, I know that's kind of difficult as it was you having them, but are we talking just a total loss of association with reality or laying on the floor switching and flailing about?...I'm guessing that there are signs you may be about to have one as well.

Benzos are a bitch when you get hooked on them, and once your tolerance gets up it starts to become impossible to get the therapeutic benefits out of them. At the peak of my habit I was taking 8mg or more of alprazolam a day and to get high I'd probably double that and it wouldn't last long at all. Getting off is hard, but well worth it; after six months I'm starting to feel a bit more normal but my tolerance for stress and the like is absolutely gone and is in fact a real problem. :\
