Ontario OxyContin Replacement Drug Comes Under Tighter Rules

This also has me worried. There's going to be a huge vacuum in the opiate market and the medium strength level (oxycodone, my preferred) is going to be replaced by the high strength level, be it Hydromorphone or a burgeoning new heroin market.

I'm going to miss my nice oxy. Codeine's weak and I don't want the real hard stuff. So much for happy mediums.

I have seen roxi's around but damn are they rare. Probably even moreso now. This is in Ontario.

I think codeine-contin is probably the best continuous release opiate (for harm reduction) No one wants to snort or shoot codeine.

Apparently for the time being a lot of people are simply being switched to hydro's instead of heading to the new oxy. Enough patients complain, I am sure the pain doc will cough up the scripts for what they want.

I predict we will all be reading headlines about an opiate epidemic by the end of 2012.
