How much water do you drink a day?

^ this

its an acquired taste... like most things. i used to hate the taste of water, now i can easily neck it, although been mixing it with a little bit of juice lately. same principle... i used to hate green healthy food, salad veg etc,... now i love it and eat pretty much only greens all day every day. feel good because of it

All this talk about water being an acquired tastes makes me feel very fortunate that I was raised in a household that provided water to the children at a young age. We had a water cooler (you know, like you see in offices) in our kitchen that we could help ourselves to whenever we wanted. (Main reason for this was because the tap water we had was not drinkable and it was cheaper to go with a five gallon water dispenser than gallons from the store. Secondary reason was so my brother and I could help ourselves when we were thirsty instead of bugging my mom or grandma.)

We had to ask for a Little Hugs beverage or a carton of Juicy Juice, and those were only around after holidays or other special occasions. There was no soda or anything else to drink in the house except for beer and V8, which were for the adults, and my brother and I respected that (...for the most part LOL long story).

My dad's house was another story, where soda ran rampant and I always felt weird getting a glass of water there, so for years I sucked it up and drank soda, but after I hit about 12 or 13, I dealt with the stares and the questions and had a damn glass of water.

It's because your body doesn't know how to appreciate the "lack of taste" of water. Your taste buds are probably on general overload with drinking soda / juice or whatever you fill that void with.

If you're looking to try becoming more hydrated, you can actually water down your favorite drinks so that your tongue and body come back to equilibrium.

Just my thoughts, anyway. I know that I cannot, for the life of me, handle hard liquor, so I water a shot down so it doesn't taste as bad. Maybe doing the same thing will work for you, going backward.
Thats probably it :| I have a crazy sweet tooth as welll I love it though haha. Ugh, oh well. Im relocating to Northern Europe within 1.5 months time, so once Im there Ill have a way healthier lifestyle.

Im over Alcohol. Im limiting myself to no more than 4 times a year. Its been doing more harm than good in my life lately.

You guys are water whores lol, i drink on average 2 small glasses a day of liquid total. I just don't get thirsty, and i barely ever sweat even when working hard. Is there any harm to my body if im drinking like 1 glass of water a day?

Yeah, there are long-term ramifications of not drinking enough water. Think about it like changing the oil in your car: Your car burns oil and the remainder needs to be emptied and changed every so many miles. What happens if you don't change the oil in your car? Drinking water is like changing your internal oil so to speak, and it should happen daily.

Also, a quick search should answer your question more thoroughly. I'd cite ADA information and facts, but the last time I did I was rather rudely told I need to check my sources. 8) However, I will say this: The average person excretes 1500 ml a day, therefore needs at least 1500 ml of water each day.

^ Tweakyb, have you tried adding 1/4 teaspoon of sugar to a glass of water and drinking it that way? You said you like sugar/sweet things. While drinking sugar water is not healthy for you, if you were to drink one glass of water with 1/4 teaspoon of sugar a day, that would be much better for you than the 12 tablespoons of sugar you get in a liter of soda (or whatever the tablespoons to liters is). You could gradually lower the amount of sugar, 'til you're drinking plain water.

Also, have you tried different varieties of water? I know water is water, but I've noticed a drastic taste change between the water in the office I work (comes in five-gallon containers from some company) versus the water from say Poland Spring or Aquafina, versus the water from the tap at home. I would rather go thirsty than drink the water that comes in the five-gallon containers at work.

Cordial can help, too. You can gradually make it weaker and weaker.

Drinking mixed drinks like that is infinitely better than drinking soda, but still not as good as drinking unadulterated water.

That usually contains high amounts of sugar (natural and added). Make sure you're choosing juice with no sugar added, but even then (IMHO) you should not drink more than approximately one glass per day.

Tweaks, do you think you have a dependency on sugar? Do you have headaches if you don't eat or drink anything sugary for a few hours?

Oh, I know I have an addiction to sugar. Is it possible that it could cause liver inflammation? I just recently had a blood draw and some lab work done, everything was within normal range except for some mild liver inflammation apparently.

Edit: The headaches, Ive been getting chronic headaches for the past.... I dont even know, whether or not Ive consumed something with sugar. They never last longer than a few minutes and never get bad, just an annoying pressure type pain.

That doesn't sound fun. :(

Would you ever work to reduce your dependency? Like, cutting out soda and sugary stuff and replacing it with whole foods, proteins, water, leafy greens and grains? I imagine it would have a hugely positive effect on your headaches.

Also do you ingest a lot of caffeine?

Dehydration can be a big cause of headaches.

Quoting this from the previous page as it helps bring in my answer to your post.

Plenty of protein, greens, grains, and dairy in my diet out there, along with more organic fruits, and a lot less sugary stuff.

Id say Ive cut back a good amount in the last few months. It used to be a lot worse, damn candy :| Have ended up with 5 cavities from it in the past 1.5 years. But Ive basically cut out all candy from my life in the past 2 months, except for the random Starburst pack once every maybe 1-2 weeks. Lately Ive been stopping at 2 sodas max a day, with no caffeine. Im not a big fan of caffeinated sodays, so my caffeine intake is pretty minimal.

^ Those headaches you get sound like the dehydration headaches I get. :-/ They're not fun, and only went away when I surpassed the three or four liter mark.

But clear urine is a sign of hydration, is it not? Or is that just myth? Dont feel like googling this late. I (along with my previous and current psychiatrist) have always attributed the headaches to my mental disorders.

3-4L, omgno.

Clear urine can be a sign of hydration, but it can also be a sign of other things I don't have sources for atm and therefore won't go into. ;)

I'm not saying to aim for 3-4 liters--I'm simply saying that you should try to drink more water and see if your headaches don't go away. They very well could be due to your mental disorders, but you never know. I attributed mine to florescent lighting and later to not smoking cigarettes (when I really "needed" one). I started upping my water intake, and like i said, once I surpassed the 3-4 liter mark, the headaches went away.

Let me be clear that I didn't start off drinking 3-4 liters on day one. First day I had my usual struggle with eight 8-ounce glasses. The next day I struggled with nine. So on and so forth. I didn't always drink water in the amounts that I do, but now that I do I feel infinitely better.

Yeah, I get you. Just the thought of 1L is overwhelming haha. Quitting cigs cold turkey (again :|) is definately gonna kick these headaches into top gear. Need to hurry up with this e-cig.

^ That's when I started drinking more water. Every time you want a cigarette, quickly drink a glass or two of water. That is how I was able to remain smoke-free the second time I quit, and also up my water intake.
