I myself have always loved light shows, and I used to be indifferent toward the distinction of how you deliver the lightshow, just blow some mind and I was down. But more and more people just glove. I would personally prefer raw bright lights right in the face Ya baby, but some people are ninjas with their gloves. What does the community think?

Oh and I have done liquid with my hands since I first smoked cannabis, and I take myself to other dimensions with my hands (no pun intended lol) but something about dudes moving their fingers in my face that just looks like fingers and hands to me, whereas just holding the lights and tossing them around seems more immersive to me.

Gloving is cool, but now, too many people do it. I go into a rave, and see nothing but Glover's. I see people come up to me, offering a light show, and I just shrug and keep walking. Too many people do it now, it's nothing special.

But then I bust out my Flowlights, or Poi, and it's something else altogether. You go to a Rave, you see maybe 5 or 6 people doing poi as oppose to the 14 or 15 doing glove shows. I like Poi so much better. The flow, it's unbelievable. And feels amazing when you're rolling.

Poi > Gloving

I've always been interested in digits and finger tutting so i am biased towards gloving. I do love poi though, provided there is enough room and performer is aware of their surroundings. Nothing more annoying than catching a glowstick to the face.

I see glovers as those who have routines down and do them to any song with no relation to the flow of the musi.

I give lightshows that are completely based upon the music, flow, wobbles, etc.

Glovers suck, those who give light shows rock :D

I do see how it can be badass I bet I'm good at it. I just like to see really really bright lights leave long tracers. My vision is ruined anyway from the cops shining flashlights in my eyes for 20 minutes or longer in a pitch black room. Maybe that's why the diffused look that gloves give doesn't appeal as much to me?

Word. The music is so relavent. I like psychedelic back rubs that go to music too. Feels crazy! Also, I like to make love with my wife to really loud trance music, just not to the beat, that seems kind of cheesy :)

POI is tethered balls of light (usually with flashing LED's) I think they used to call them rave balls or maybe that was something different I was high ;)
Traditionally, POI is tethered balls of fire that you dance with.

Poi is not show-offy at all. Glowstringing, a form of poi can be, but LED Poi is all about flow and going with the music. It's very relaxing, and almost a form of meditation in my eyes. It's a very beautiful, and relaxing hobby to take up.

This is LED Poi, flowlights, which is what I use when I go to raves. Also, I find a lot of people ask to be hit with the theses. I can't possibly tell you how many damn times I see people walk right into them, or right into the person spinning. Have some respect, we are the ones watching out, being careful to not hit you. How about you be careful not to walk into us or our lights either? It works both ways. But I digress, lol!

Check it out.

hah i like the way you think. i own a pair of gloves but don't do much finger tutting, i was going to learn but am just not interested enough in it. i'm an old schooler so gloving is a new thing to me, i remember before photons or led's of any kind were very popular and regular-ass glowsticks were the norm. and have been doing liquid + freehand photons and glowsticks for over 10 years - i can also do a little stringing, some other dance moves like gliding, tutting, a little popping, the basics for c-walking but i'm def far better at liquid as that's been my default at most parties back in the day plus i adopt a lot of those moves during light shows. i don't have a routine down per say i just go with the flow of the music, i used to have lots of routines down but have since forgotten most of them since my hiatus from the party scene for some years while focusing on my career. now that i'm settled in my career i'm back to dancing / etc a lot more often and it's like riding a bike, it came right back to me. so i've forgotten routines but the general flow is something that becomes natural like walking/etc once you've done it enough. having said that i did suck IMHO at first until i did it a few times then it all came back. i like getting glove light shows they def blow my roll up but watching stringing or freehand is the best IMO because of the flow of it.
