"Speed" means different things to different people and different things in different parts of the world. In the United States, speed means either regular old amphetamine (in the form of Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse), methamphetamine and sometimes methylphenidate preparations like Ritalin or Concerta. I've even heard ephedrine referred to as "speed" (although its usually called "trucker speed").

I know in the UK "speed" is street amphetamine. In the U.S. if it is not referring to methamphetamine, then its prescription amphetamines.

So, long story short, speed is any amphetamine or amphetamine-like drug. Most of the time.

I don't know how it's in the UK but here Speed is most often (racemic, 50:50 dextro and levo) amphetamine (about 30%) cut with lactose and caffeine (>60%). Adderall is a slightly different type of amphetamine (75% dextroamphetamine and 25% levoamphetamine) and the effects are different. Dextroamphetamine is much more dopaminergic, the ratio DA to NE is higher and with less physical side effects. Some claim to enjoy speed more than pure amphetamine because there is a significant synergy with caffeine. Better to get things done, for learning/ADHD D-amp is claimed to be superior to racemic amp. Don't know if much meth is sold for speed, but you would definitely feel it.
Could someone who took both DL-amp and Adderall (with its different salts) elaborate the differences for that matter?

Yes. Pharmacologically, methamphetamine is amphetamine + a methyl group. Easiest way I know to tell them apart, generally speaking: meth is powder, amphetamines are pills (prescription). In the US they both carry the same penalty if u get caught, tho amphetamines are legal with a prescription.

You are right about meth/powder and amphetamine(s?)/pills in the US, but in Europe it's quite difficult to get an amphetamine prescription and actual prescription amp pills are rare. To clarify: Methamphetamine can be legally prescribed (Both are in schedule II) in the US, but only for ADHD/obesity, although it's also effective for narcolepsy.. The trademark is Desoxyn and contains 5 mg Dextromethamphetamine. Levomethamphetamine is an OTC decongestant with almost zero CNS activity (=not euphoric, peripheral stimulation only).

Adderall is prescribed like candy here. I'd bet at least 1 in 20 kids is prescribed the stuff. and its the most singly readily available thing in my area. Shame (or blessing) im not an uppers kinda guy. Yes, the US is effed up, but that's a post for a different thread at a better hour.

speed is normally something that is gonna get your heart racing faster and working harder and more than likely keep you up and possibly not eat as well which is unhealthy its safer to stay away from all forms of this!
