Opioids Need opinions on which opiate I should go with.

It's worth a shot: Ask your doctor to write on the prescription: "Oxycodone ER **mg Tablets, Do Not Substitute" If there is a box on his RX pad like there is at my Dr's check the box marked "do not substitute". Be sure to call your pharmacy too.

Back when I was prescribed the oldschool OC for chronic pain, this worked even after the OP's had taken over the market. I'm pretty sure this still works to get the OC's we know and love, although it may depend on your area.

His script does that that box and I live in Florida.
 
Ever try fentanyl? I wouldn't advise anyone go on fentanyl... normally. However, you say you switch opiate prescriptions frequently because of the insane tolerance. Due to having said that, as long as you DO NOT abuse the fentanyl, it will be safe as your doctor will know how to prescribe it safely to you. :) And unless they prescribe you fentanyl ampules or buccal tablets, they'll give you a patch from what I gather. That will be for transdermal use only.

I have tried fentanyl... I have only had it once, for surgery, IV'd with midazolam in the same IV. Insanely intense experience. I blacked out in like 3 seconds flat. =D %)

Actually - when oxymorphone is taken orally like oxycodone is supposed to be when RX'd for pain relief, it's not 10x stronger, as the oxymorphone oral bioavailability is quite poor, and snorting oxymorphone is not the same as IVing it.

IV'd, you are quite right, oxymorphone is GOING to be 10x stronger, and I can tell that's why you threw in the (assuming 100% bioavailability) part. =D Right on.

I'm a new member,from Canada,up north,your friendly neighbor.

Always nice to compare the differences in brand names from different countries.
Recently my Dr. wanted me to try the Fentanyl patches 50 mcg/h every 72hrs in replacement of Oxycontin 40mg x2 p/day and what a journey to hell..For me Oxycontin is the best pain/killer allowing me to be productive around the house however,,,her decision to switch to Fentanyl is due to my request to upgrade from Oxycontin 40mg x2 p/day to 40mg x3 p/day..since she's a flatfoot it just scared her and forced her to offer me some long lasting meds.Well i'm a good sport and i wanted to show her that I trusted her by accepting the new Rx..But I had to visit the ER in order to get off of the Fentanyl,,Fentanyl is good for post surgical treatment when hospitalised,it made me drowsy (like most user) but got in my blood stream and turned out to be almost dangerous..i just don't know how people can function on a regular basis with such Rx..It is true that NO one react the same way with Pain management..everybody's different to opiate prescriptions,,but lets keep in mind that there is a reason why OXYCONTIN is the most widely used pain killer in the world.
