What is a good sleep medication that I can get my doc to give me? Please don't mention any benzo's because my doc refuses to give me them because I am on Suboxone treatment. Now that I quit using I can't fucking sleep...ever! been in treatment for 31 days. 8mg twice a day.

The z-drugs, stuff like zolpidem, zopiclone, etc., work very similarly to benzos but technically aren't benzos, and are often prescribed for sleep. OTC, you can try using diphenydramine or melatonin.

What have you tried? Apart from benzos there are the z-drugs (zopiclone and zolpidem) but you can become dependent on them, sedating antihistamines (1st generation ones), melatonin..

Sleep hygiene is really important too - going to bed at a set time, no TV/internet etc right before bed, using your bed just for sleeping in, doing something relaxing before you go to sleep..

Good luck!

edit: ninja'd :D

Doctors don't like giving them out (to my knowledge) as sleep aids, but apparently some of antipyschotics are extremely sedating. Seroquel, Haloperidol, etc. Again, I've never had any experience with these drugs and know long term use leads to nasty side effects, but they're uncontrolled and usually knock people right out!

I would try skipping your second dose. Maybe take try taking just 4mg as your second dose and take it much earlier. Then work down from there. Give that some time before adding more drugs now. If you just need relief now id start with melatonin. You don't really want to take anything that messes with REM for more than a couple nights.

I think z-drugs might work, if your doctor would script you them, and you don't have a big benzo tolerance. Z-drugs are very benzo-like in how they operate. I might suggest melatonin, too, as has been suggested. Valerian root in pill form I found can have good effect. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or a similar anti-histamine might be good to keep as a PRN sleep-aid, but if taken continuously will loose its efficacy to induce sleep. I would strongly advise AGAINST anti-psychotics. They are not healthy drugs, and should not be suggested for a first-line treatment of insomnia.

Forget the addicting stuff.

Diphenhydramine 50mg mixes nicely with any opiate. Adding to the nod and making it hella easy to pass out.

Even with subs it will make you very drowsy

This is very sound advice. Chances are, there's no reason for you to be on 16mg/day if you've already stabilized yourself from needing / wanting other opiates.

My doc gives my temazepam with my bupe.. What is preventing you from sleeping? Slight withdrawals, or you are like too 'up'? nThats a benzo though.

A great short term solution is get prewscribeed clonidine. It is GREAT for sleep and also helps with like chills and shit if you got em. Deont use it for mor than like 2 weeks though

I don't know how it would interact w/ suboxone, but I like trazodone for sleep. It's also a decent anti-anxiety.

It doesn't knock you out like ambiem (zolpidem), but it relaxes you to a point where you feel like you can fall asleep, imo.
