Opioids Percocet Prescribed - Should I be concerned?

Hey -

I was just prescribed Percocet (10MG W/325 APAP) for some serious shoulder pain. Unbeknownst to me, I didn't know Oxycodone came with no other additives - Roxicodone (No APAP or Aspirin). Originally, I requested the lowest amount of APAP, as I thought this was my best option. Should I be concerned about consuming APAP to the point where I should request Roxicodone?

The most I would consume on a given day is 2, which would equate to 650 APAP daily. The prescription is for 120 pills, but I don't plan on requesting any more, and this should last me a few months. My preference would be to just ride it out with Percocet and not have to bother with my physician, again, but if its at the detriment of my health, I will make the change. Appreciate responses.

Current Prescriptions I take:

Klonopin 1MG
Dexedrine 10-15MG

As long as you know for sure that you will only take 2 per day, and not any more than that, then 650mg of APAP per day won't harm you. 1g 4 times per day over a year may do some damage to your liver, but considering that you'll hopefully only end up taking these 120 over 2 months and no more, you'll be fine. No need to worry about that aspect of it. Good luck.

Thanks so far for the responses. I should mention that the only reason I am really concerned about the APAP intake is because a few months ago, my kidney had a dull ache after partying for 4 nights in a row (Alcohol,amphetamine, benzo), but went away after 2 weeks. I had no nausea, vomiting, jaundice, etc. So I guess I am just more conscience about kidney and liver function. I have taken APAP in the past and am well aware in small amounts, its nothing to worry about. I take milk thistle, as well.

No worries man, as said you'll be fine - that 650mg is like 1/7th of your max daily recommended intake of APAP.
 
Yep, no problem with these as long as you're taking 2-3 a day.

Normally, they only give Roxi's to people that have to take far more oxycodone in one day to feel benefits from it. I have a friend that's prescribed the same thing as you, except, he's supposed to take all 120 in a months time. He's actually been taking more, and is due to be moved up to roxi's post-op.

I know a lot of people see the APAP as evil stuff, but it can actually be great for someone just looking for pain relief. I know way back when I could get more relief from a 10/325mg perc than I did from a roxi with more oxycodone in it. The combo of oxy and APAP worked great for me until I decided to make my oxy tolerance go through the roof.

So no worries. :)

The dose sounds fine, just wouldn't be doing any serious drinking (or any, really) while taking it.
 
You seem to be in control of your intake just read around here and realize the high potential for addiction with oxycodone. It all starts small and just explodes from there. I'm on the same page as you taking percocet for pain mgmt just stay strong with that self control!

i would start by telling all the ppl that wroth the previous comments about how you sould be fine - they have no way to make a valid statement
their is no way to sure in 100 % if the percocet tretment you recieaved wont lead you to a point where youll need higher doses or\and stronger opiates -
the percocet may or may not lead it .
some ppl ( like myself ) started their step in the opiates addiction zone , merely due to a innocent 5 mg percocet pill ( im my self , shared your point
of view - in the past , unfortuanly - no more ) . those percocet 5 mg rapidly became 80 mg of oxycountin , from many more simular storys iv over heared during the last couple of years , many other shared the same sad faith .
remmeber , opiates as precocet have the tendency to create a rapid adaptetion - the starter doses youll found affective now , wouldnt kick the pains ass , after a short preiode of useing it regurally .
tomer you are a smart man how cares of his body - and i can respect that . thats way my advice to you - use other tequnics to realife your pain , those who wouldnt have the potential to destroy your life and change how you are , try to use : weed , alternative medicine or even non opiates drugs .

iv payed ( and still paying) ahigh price for the lesson im forwarding to you - pls consider the risk involved before you start the tretment .

^^ He was not asking whether it would be safe or wise etc for him to use the Percocet - He was questioning the APAP/Acetaminophen/Paracetemol in the product and whether taking his daily doses would be safe.

A little bit of new information I wanted to share with you. They are actually looking into revising the 4000 APAP amount that is taken a day down to 2,500, I believe. The possible revision is based on research over the years. In fact, they are looking into eliminating APAP from medication all together.
