If it's legal it must be safe. This is the misconception that is
leading many drug users into danger. Like the fashion for organic
food, people are being lulled into a false sense of security.

Tweaking the chemical formula of a drug like ketamine does not make it safe. The answer to the question "Is it safe?" can only ever be: "It depends."

Some legal highs may be safer than their "natural" alternatives. A good example is nicotine, the active ingredient in cigarettes, which is a great deal safer when delivered in pure form than when taken with tobacco.

I think the same way...hell IMO its safer to use "established" (well researched) drugs over most of these new RCs, especially the stimulant RCs.

Nooooo! Methoxetamine doesn't need to be covered by the media. If you're a reporter and reading this, please forget about MXE. Many of us drug users would like to see it remain legal and the best way for that to happen is for it to be ignored by you guys! :D

no but seriously :( all of this press does not bode well for one of my favorite RC's, mxe.

I've always thought MXE would be one of the first to go, its a very powerful chemical and unfortunately, the vast majority of users do not research these things before they take them. Therefore in such a scenario, things can and do go wrong and as such, the media spotlight moves to them.

My favourite compound is DOC. It is powerful far beyond anything else I've tried, psychedelic or otherwise, such compounds require a good amount of research before use, otherwise bad things are going to happen. A similar situation can be seen with MXE. Unfortunately though, those that can't/won't research these things, dose blindly, then have things going wrong ruin it for those that do. Not only that, but as most of these chemicals get a "drug of abuse" label slapped on them, all research into potential psycho-therapeutic research is blocked. I believe DOC has incredible psycho-therapeutic potential in the correct setting, but it will never likely see this function any time soon.

Sorry to derail into a DOC discussion here but some of these thoughts parallel the theme of this thread.

MXE will almost certainly be banned by easter, which whilst I don't use MXE, I believe is a very bad thing. Prohibition has never worked, banning new chemicals is not the way to go. Researching them, characterising the risks and dangers and making this data available is. Its far better to give people the freedom to use such compounds but inform of the risks than to outright ban them. Besides, does one not think that people will continue using it after the ban? Look what happened with Mephedrone. Its still abundant, but now has far less purity and quality control than it had whilst it was legal. Usage levels of Mephedrone don't look like they have decreased significantly since the ban, just now street Mephedrone is more likely to be cut with adulterants, so effectively, has been made more hazardous post-ban.

Because people simply trust the government far too much.
But, instead of trying to link this to organic foods :?
why not link it to the radioactive beef that was sold in Japan for months after the nuclear disaster -
people trusted the government to regulate the food, but the gov. was more worried about profits and companies than human health.
