Unpopular or Uncommon Opinions

Robert Rodriguez is one of the best directors of all time, definitely ahead of scorcessi and Coppola.

Total respect.
I mean really, find me an example of a movie with more beautiful cinematography than Shark Boy & Lava Girl.
I kid, but yeah he's an excellent director and was my favorite for the longest time when I was heavily into movies.

Ever see Four Rooms?

I dunno, I find it hard to rate the Space Odyssey movie above or below the book since they were made at exactly the same time through Kubrick-Clarke collaboration and were meant to compliment one another. The book and the movie are both part of the same piece of art, just presented in different media.

Desperado was a good movie until all the good actors died in the first hour, then Banderas was left on his own with Hayek and the movie turned into garbage. I wasn't suspecting such a 180, and was certain that the director knew something we didn't about the movie if he was so confident to kill off Cheech, Tarantino, Buschemi, and Danny Trejo, all within the first few scenes. I was thinking, "surely he's got something up his sleeve" but it never really panned out IMO...though I did love the bazooka guitar case guy. That was pretty fucking sweet.

That's the thing. they are ridiculous to us as older viewers but in his kids movies he represents the fantasies of children. IDK if you were around for spy kids as a child but I was totally enamored with it. My younger siblings the same with shark boy and lava girl. Right now they are downstairs watching spy kids three... For the second time today. That's how children's movies should be.

Have you seen El Mariachi?

Oh don't worry. They were never of my generation but I knew how to appreciate them for what they were. He's a well rounded director imo. You seem like a big fan but if you haven't heard of it you should check out his short film titled "Bed Head." Maybe youtube has it. It was before El Mariachi came out & it was evident that he would go on to make movies for kids also.
That's also why I asked if you have seen Four Rooms. It's about a quirky bellhop who visits 4 different hotel rooms on New Years Eve. Each room was like a short film by a different director. Rodriguez wrote and directed the third room. It's a great one and pretty gory, yet it focused on children playing the main roles. It was nice hybrid of his two styles. The 4th room was written, directed & starred in by Tarantino. And it's basically 30 minutes of Tarantino motor mouthing the camera drunk as shit.
The movie is definitely worth checking out for those last 2 rooms.

Paul Rudd is one of the least versatile actors I've ever seen. Whenever he attempts to play anyone other than his supposedly-likeable family-friendly easily-digestible default, he falls flat. In "My Idiot Brother," he plays a bearded long-haired hippy; the character is Paul Rudd with a beard and long hair. The guy has less range than the horse that played Mr. Ed.

@Laika & hiphophippy: Rodriguez is definitely awesome. I prefer him to Tarantino. Though, Grindhouse is a better example than Four Rooms.

Room #4 < Deathproof < Room #3 < Planet Terror

Having said that, Room #2 is probably my favorite... #1 is like watching an abortion (starring Paul Rudd).

The Godfather is utter crap. Brando's portrayal of a mob boss is some of the most eccentric over-acting I have ever encountered. He looked and sounded like he was having a prolonged stroke throughout the entire series.

eddie murphy had some great films, ages ago before he completely softened up.

I loved the Beverly Hills Cop flicks when I was younger (as well as Coming to America and The Golden Child). They're a lot of fun (so they are great in that sense).

I was pretty young when I saw them all, but I think I would still enjoy some of them.

i just don't see the world taking a number to proclaim that paul rudd is versatile. in what sense is this an unpopular or uncommon opinion?

It's not. I just really felt like taking a dump on Rudd.

I'm glad you approve. :)

Hrm.

Regarding The Godfather: I'm glad you disapprove of my opinion, while at the same time approving it as a sufficiently uncommon statement to qualify for this thread.

On another note: Why is a raven like a writing desk?
