Opioids can solumedrol block opiates

Just like the title says, can solumedrol (pill form) block say oxycodone from working?

Ive done my normal dose of oxy snorting it, 140mgs, and 4mgs of xanax eaten (normal dose, been doing it for awhile) and im not feeling anything, so i work my way up to 200mgs snorted in about an hour and 45 min and i barley feel anything, my pupils are not even small. I feel like ever since i started the solumedrol i cant get high. I only have 2 days left of it, so well see i guess
 
I don't think solumedrol has any action on the opioid receptors in the brain whatsoever, so it should have absolutely no interference.
 
Yes Methylprednisolone, generic name, is a steroid if I'm not mistaken. This would have no interaction at all with oxycodone or any other psychoactive as far as i know.
 
Thanks, not sure whats up then, I feel like ever since I started them, I haven't been feeling my Oxy high. Im tapering the Medrol down now so I have 2 left of it. Im hoping thats the cause, but who knows.
 
Quick Google says no action at opiate receptors, and no inhibition of CYP2D6 enzymes which might have explained lessening of effect with the opiate in question being a codeine variant. No interactions as far as I can tell?

Could it just be tolerance? Seems the most likely explanation. How long you been using and how regularly?

I do about 60mgs through out the day to avoid dope sick. Then when I wanted the full effects i would do 140mgs of oxy, plus my dose of xanax every night. Which was working great right before I started the Medrol. But I can't see a 60mg tolerance increase overnight. When I did 200mgs last night I didn't have a single effect of the oxy, my pupils were normal, pulse rate never dropped (it usually dose).

I know full well of mixing CNS depressants, been in the game for years.
 
Mareseatoats, SSRI interactions leading to diminished effects of some opiates is well known, particularly with codeine variants metabolised by CYP2D6 enzymes, of which Zoloft is a moderate inhibitor. It effectively prevents or slows some of the conversion from codeine to morphine, or codeine variants to morphine variants, oxycodone to oxymorphone for instance. There are other SSRI interactions with other CYP450 enzymes affecting metabolisation of other opiates.

You wouldn't see SSRI interactions with Heroin because unlike most other opiates out there metabolisation doesn't in the main involve CYP450 enzymes. It's a completely different metabolic path: first deacetylation by esterases to Morphine via 6-Monoacetylmorphine, and then glucoronidation to Morphine-6-Glucoronide, all of which have activity at receptors. Opiates / opiods metabolised by CYP450 include codeine and its variants, fentanyl, methadone, tramadol. There's a good chart here listing lots of CYP450 interactions with various meds, including opiates and SSRIs. When people use potentiators like grapefruit juice these are the enzymes they're playing with. It's these kinds of interactions I first thought of as a possible answer to Hazex's question, but seems not to apply.

i for one know that Methylprednisolone and Morphine must be given through two separate IV lines, they can't be mixed in the same line. For whatever that is worth, i remember reading it on the Comparability chart on the wall at the nursing station.

Methylprednisolone (Medrol) also comes in pill form. I was just on it, and finished my last 4mg dose 36 hours ago.

Yes Sepher-that is very interesting; thanks for explaining. I knew it couldnt have just been my imagination.
