... God Fearing?

I wonder how all the "devout atheists" here on BL are going to answer this one:)

What if you're a pagan and or pantheistic and you've got more than one god to fear?

For lack of being able to respond to this because I'm not sure who or what out there in the cosmos I fear, I claim FIRST!

Well, all I can say is when these old-timers around here say it, they mean the person is afraid to do bad things because they fear the wrath of a god named Jehova (a.k.a. Yahweh or Allah + his other 99 or so names). Does this mean they would do bad things if they didn't think some supernatural being would smite them for it?

Its the beginning of wisdom. ;)

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and to depart from evil is the beginning of understanding." - Job 28:28

Once the church started loosing people because god wasn't doing anything for them they started spinning tales of damning hellfire and eternal torture.

I just watched a recent movie about Martin Luther called Luther starring Joseph Fiennes. Its somewhat historically accurate, and I like Luther's message in the film about not wanting to fear God, but to love him and be loved by him, and only fear hurting him because he loves us.

Good God fearing people respect his wrath and do what pleases him to avoid it.

However I feel that the concept is perpetrated by the controllers of the faith in order to manipulate the population.
eg, Give the Church your time, money and love, lest God become angry at you an punish you.

You have to approach the Throne humbly and with head bowed. If you look at him face to face with a sinful one youll surely get burned. If he choses to lift your chin youll see Him as He truely is.. gentle as a lamb.

If sin distorts your vision you may see a goat! and that wouldnt be nice.

Indi knelt.. He chose wisely ;)

"... oh dear."
lol

perfect!

God to me isn't a spirit but the collected creation of the universe that acts is in touch with everything in it, and also created everything. I compare it to mycelium in how it receives information.

If I do bad and pollute this organism with negative energy (that is how I assume it interacts by vibrations of our energy) and do harm to other organisms that are part of it then it I won't get feedback or receive negative feedback which is letting me know I am not doing something right (Karma applied to my view) I have nothing to worry or fear as long as I think positive, act in a positive manner, and be compassionate to all life, and stay in touch with my instincts and take notice when I feel that I have a random idea and get a gut urge to go with it.

I am upset that we will probably be wiped out, because we are a blight to this planet, by poisoning it and taking advantage of what made us, so a minority can practice their greedy ways and profit exhorbantly from the destruction fo Earth and not help anyone but their self causing severe harm to the environment, and practing greed while taking advantage of their workers and society. I am not saying we will be kicked off soon or anything but I doubt humanity will be around one thousand years from now. Just think our body attacks bad cells or toxins and gets rid of them, and by all the negative energy our species has created we will eventually be taken care of before we can spread further out than our one planet.

yeah it's about knowing your place in the universe. you don't walk up to god acting all king shit and disrespectful like you don't walk in front of a high velocity train expecting you'll be fine.

I liked Luther's message about how we should fear the evil Jew instead, myself.

I was raised Catholic, so I'm not really supposed to like Protestants or Jews.

Well, I'm gonna film a more historically accurate version then, and it will...of course...star Mel Gibson as Martin Luther. No, that won't work...portraying Luther in a film is like an extra 2000 years of purgatory, so I don't see Mel signing on...

hehe, no worries, I was raised Catholic as well, and certainly raised the robes of quite a few priests within the Catholic diocese in my time as a choir boy.
