Which illegal psychedelic should be made legal?

Imagine that there would be a opening from the world authorities to unschedule one and only one illegal compound. Which should it be?

Cannabis is an obvious choice, but for "stricter" psychedelics, my vote would be DMT. I articulate my vote for the following reasons:

* Its endogenous to our brains so most probably harmless
* it has an historical and cultural usage and is legal in some countries (Brazil, for instance, ok only within a ritual context and what not, but it is legal)
* Relatively short acting - compared to psylocibin and LSD the return to baseline is pretty fast, even by oral administration with a MAOI
* Virtually no tolerance build up
* Very low addiction potential
* Not associated with violent or suicidal behaviors

What are your opinions on this?

All of them but, if I would have to choose only one, LSD, because is the only that I cant measure the dosage with the black market situation. I never tried LSD for this reason, even the most useful psychedelic seems useless for me if I cant measure dosages correctly. LSD legalization is needed!

The second, mescaline. Is very expensive to extract or buy the synthetic mescaline, bacause the high dosage needed. With legalizacion it would be more affordable

I'm thinking we should start with one that's typical in its effects, extremely light and extremely safe. 2c-c? Once the public thinks of these substances as safe in most people's hands, they'd be more likely to view negative effects from stronger psychedelics as the users' faults.

I find it quite peculiar that psilocybin mushrooms are "legal" as long as you don't touch them even though they can be found in nature. I'd say shrooms should be legal as they grow freely in nature. Psilocybe semilanceata can be found without too much effort if you know where to look here.

I agree with these guys.

Same here! Of course. I'm all for full legalization of any substance. But my original question was naturally hypothetical. More in the likelihood of a negotiation scenery. Like the UN meeting with MAPS or some similar organization, asking them "OK, we'll concede on one and only one psychedelic to be unscheduled, now choose!"

So far only 2 meaningful answers other than mine. LSD is a good one. Lots of study on this one, mostly harmless, huge therapeutic index... On the other hand 2C-C is generally legal almost everywhere, so I would not count that one.

Yeah legal acid would be awesome, imagine just walking down to the nearest gas station and buying a pack of acid tabs, Lol.

They have to unschedule all of them. It's about the principle issue of personal and collective freedom to do as we please without authoritarian institutions breathing down our necks, not about finding one compound that some faceless "consensus" agrees is useful - and unscheduling that one at the expense of the others. Otherwise, there are already plenty of perfectly adequate quasi-legal psychedelics in the RC phenethylamine and tryptamine worlds and the ethnobotanical world.

Naturally. The issue is that a substance is only legal while its relatively unknown. Once it is proven good, everyone goes in and then it is scheduled! It's always the same story over and over. If there was one thing legal, which should be safe, at least consumers might use that one, without the need to go into the grey market using white powders that no one really knows what they are, and waiting for the next tragedy, caused by mislabeling, bad synthesis, mischief, or dose confusion.

One legal psychedelic could be enough to prevent all sorts of problems.

Don't know how the average person would approach such substances. Most psychedelics need to be handled with care and respect. Not everybody can or will do that.

Aside from that, I wouldn't mind 2c-b becoming legal again. Just a nice switch from reality most people would be able to enjoy.

if it's a negotiation situation where they concede on only one psych then it should be mushrooms. I don't think they should be outright legalized and sold like alcohol but rather quietly unscheduled so that no one gets in trouble for personal use at least. i don't like how people get greedy and profit from selling psychs, that's where the trouble happens.

I think this should apply to all psychedelics, make it such that only people who want to use them can use them safely (or for research) and the general population is none the wiser. I chose mushrooms since they grow naturally and you can grow them yourself, so there wouldn't necessarily be a need for government regulation or taxation.

I would hate to see my favorite psychs exploited by companies like alcohol/tobacco or distributed by greedy pharmaceutical companies.

As creatures of this Earth, humans have an inherent right to anything that grows out of the ground. So I'm gonna go with "entheogens" :D

...but ideally all drugs would be decriminalized.
