ok so i just had my ACL and meniscus reconstructed yesterday. i was in the worst pain of my life so they had to sedate me constantly with hydrocodone, demerol, or morphine every 2 hours or so. anyway i was released today with a script for hydrocodone and i'm in EXCRUCIATING pain. they're working so far, i feel very sedated and my knee feels numb and to a point dissociated.

anyway i'm going to be on this stuff for a week straight, but i think i'm going to start develop a tolerance to it, is it possible? i was thinking about taking either grapefruit juice or scopolamine to potentiate it. this is completely medical, i'm not going to take anything beyond two pills (as doc told me to when needed), so any advice?

You will not notice a tolerance after just a week of taking hydrocodone. I'm not saying whether or not you should potentiate the effects, that's up to you. It might help how well it covers your pain. Personally I have never really been able to potentiate hydrocodone to any great effect.

Good luck and be safe.

Sounds like one of those making up a story to get to the real question situations to me ;) If you're in that much pain and did in fact just have a major surgery I'm sure your doctor would prescribe you a higher dosage of hydrocodone or perhaps oxycodone if your current is not helping. Butttt if not, i agree with volp as far as your question goes.

not really, they had me on nothing but i.v.'s during the surgery but according to the doc they don't have demerol in pill form and morphine is only RXable to cancer patients in pill form. the only other choice they had was hydrocodone, which is a high dose apparently seeing as ONE floors me and i'm 211 lb 5'8", mostly muscle

Vicodin was just getting (popular) & schedule IIII when I was first scripted (wretched back) 2 - 5/500's was a pretty interesting buzz back then, but then I could still almost get an itch from 1 percocet 5/325...In pain, or weekend use only (2 days) is the way to go

To answer the OP's question, you can certainly build an opiate tolerance if you're using them every day at the same dosages.

If you're looking to potentiate hydrocodone, I think you will probably get the best results with cimetidine. There is a ton of information regarding potentiation of hydrocodone here, you should be able to easily find it using the Bluelight search engine. You can also use the site:bluelight.ru <search term> operator on Google to find stuff.

Diphenhydramine and some other antihistamines will potentate the effects of hydrocodone. I've read that promethazine works really well, but that it also speeds up the rate that hydrocodone is metabolized. Also gabapentin and opiates go very well together, and I doubt you would have problems getting gabapentin as it is not scheduled.

I'm scripted gabbapentin and it does seem to help my opietes work better. If you are gonna take diphenhydramine to potinate it I would suggest just taking 25mgs
