Local Anesthetic

I was just wondering what the legal status of local anesthetics are?
If I went to the chemist/pharmacy and asked for local anesthetic, would I need to be a doctor to get it?

pretty sure you can get a gel to numb things like wisdom teeth. lignocaine gel? something like that.
i'm pretty sure it is available OTC but i imagine mr blonde will be able to give some informed advice on this when he next logs on.

Why do you want local anaesthetic without going to a doctor? Want to knock up some faux-coke?

Lignocaine, benzocaine, mepivacaine, cinchocaine, prilocaine, oxetacaine are S2 or S4 (depending on preparation)
Bupivacaine, levobupivacaine, amylocaine, articaine, butacaine, etidocaine, mepivacaine, oxybuprocaine, pramocaine, procaine, proxymetacaine, quinisocaine, ropivacaine are S4
Cocaine is S8

There may be others...

Of the S2 ones you mentioned, are any available to inject (subcut) or are they all topical?

I don't know (never bought any of them before), but I would be surprised if they provided take-home subcut anaesthetic - I just don't see a legitimate use for it

No harm in going into a pharmacy and asking, provided you have a good response when they ask why you want it and why a topical solution wouldn't be adequate.

The stuff in ampoules you likely can't buy without prescription. Only ampoules I know off that you can buy at any chemist is Vitamin B12. I think because it can't be absorbed orally. It's sort of strange though that you can buy the ampoules but it's illegal to inject them.

What bobbydarren said. The only local anesthetics available OTC are topical formulations, some unscheduled some S2 and some hemorrhoid preparations are S3 due to the presence of 1% hydrocortisone. Ampules are unavailable and you are unlikely to be prescribed them, as incorrect and even correct use can lead to severe tissue damage as well as cardiac problems.

What did you want them for? Since you are asking about ampules I'm assuming you don't just have a nasty sunburn or mouth ulcer.

I wanted something to help with the pain of course
I thought about getting drunk/taking dissociatives although that would raise my BP and I don't think it's a good idea to create a wound whilst it's in my system.

Yes and no. It's a body modification, yes. Think more along the lines of putting something under your skin in a very sensitive area.
