I don't like it when anyone puts us down for any reason at all, and I see the bigger picture; yeah, you know what, we're the generation that just cannot seem to get their shit together, and it's frustrating, but we're frustrated too, and we didn't have it easy, either. I mean, shit, two wars, rampant unemployment, a mountain of debt, a failing economy that looks like it's just about ready to break... I'm twenty-three now, and guess what, things haven't gotten any better for me or for anyone else my age; things have only gotten worse. And you're going to sit there and tell me that we're wrong for experimenting with substances and looking for some relief, some way to make the world just a little softer? Fuck off...
Sorry, I'm thinking about this conversation I had with an older woman who told me that we had "no excuse" for using drugs because of all the information that's out there on how bad drugs are and whatever else. She's an idiot, but whatever, the point is that I wouldn't put down anyone for their abusing substances, whatever their preferred substance may be, as I understand why we do it and why there seems to be a surge in substance abuse especially with younger people today. Hell, I grew up in a white, middle-class, suburban little town in Connecticut. I can't tell you how many kids I graduated with who are now addicted to something and very likely opiates. The way that I feel about it is this: We're all in it together, and if you're reaching out to something else, whatever it may be, coke, crack, dope, whatever, then you're one of us; I understand, and I wouldn't put you down for it.
