Street Junkies/ Drinkers tell yeer story

Thanks Brimz it was very interesting to read how things really work and I appreciate you opening up like that.

Thanks .
That's how it was when i was doing it things have moved on a fair bit but the basics are still the same .
When i did it you bought a mag for 40p n sold for 80p , these days it's £1.40 i think , the best time was when it was £1.20 and the £2 coin came out at the same time hence you would get alot of kind folk letting you keep the change .
Although some vendors can be a bit naughty n claim not have any change8)

The most i've been given for a magazine is £20 and a brand new pair of Adidas trainers !!

I must admit i thought it strange when the couple who gave me the £20 asked my shoe size 8 btw , to my fortune they had purchased a pair of £165 y3 trainers for their son but he didn't like them ( spoilt rich kid ) , i on the other hand thought they were fantastic !!
Only problem was i couldn't wear em whilst vending as it would be a bit ott .

I've had a few nice touches like that.
Also the best day of the year is Xmas eve n New Years Eve folk are in a good mood and rarely even take the magazine but still give you money / or gifts if they know you n have become a regular i got a fair few Xmas cards from regulars.

As i mentioned i haven't had a badge since probably 2003 .
I still have it some where

A socialist called Arnold who affects to live in Murmansk calls me a 'fucking knobhead'.

Care to explain why, Arnie?

i want to know what you said that was obviously controversial n was edited by the mods i think this is what Arnold is commenting on i may be wrong and don't want to get tangled up in your little dispute.

Still do the right thing Charlie n pm me what you said i won't be offended it's not like we haven't had our differences of opinion before & managed to sort them out like adults.

No need, brimz. The post that inspired comrade Arnie's foul mouth is at the top of the page. The only editing is his, when he quotes me. Sure he'll explain soon.

If we're going to have personal insults (and I'd much rather we didn't) can we at least make it so they sound as if they're coming from an adult, Arnold?

If that's too much to ask then I apologise.

I absolutely concur that childish insults are pretty good, however all Charlie's asking for is an explanation of the 'knobhead' sideswipe earlier. I'm sure you can bit your tongue for as long as it takes to furnish him with one.

If it helps, I promise not to make any cheap cock jokes in the meantime. :)

You'd only need half a working brain cell to get what he was insinuating with his initial post which anyone would guess anyways so what was the point bar being a knobber?
That you have to type it out...

Exactly what was he insinuating? Maybe my one brain cell is far too preoccupied with work, but I can't quite see it.

From what I could gather he was genuinely intrigued as to how she'd managed to fund that lifestyle without recourse to the 'traditional' addict's methods, and that was about it.

Aye, that's how I took it as well. The sort of things that he could have been insinuating were all ruled out in the original post.

I wan't to thank everyone who has posted about their experiences in this thread, it has been really intresting to read, and some of the stuff you have admitted/alluded to would have taken some courage, even if this is just the internet.

For those in the know about the big issue - I'm often worried about offending sellers (stupid I know), I'm really not interested in the magazine, it is absolute rubbish, but try to give people some change if I can afford to. Most vendors have jackets asking people to buy the magazine off of them, am I likely to be offending people by putting them in more of a begging role as it is so one sided or is that just an official line from the organization?

Also CCF, you don't know me, but I've been lurking here on and off for a few years now. It is good to see things may be looking up for you and I wish you all the best - keep your head up!

Yeah i think those red jackets are mandatory these days .

In relation to the magazine itself when Ian Brown did an interview his first for years an exclusive i believe it sold out n we had none left to sell it was so popular .

I found that the front cover often would have a big impact on how many you could shift .
Their was one with Angelina Jolie about 10 year ago n that sold like hot cakes as well.

Brimz, could you just clear it up as I've often wondered the same. Would it be offending the big issue dude to just give him a quid or so instead of actually buying the magazine?

A lot of them are sound as fuck, quite happily giving you chat etc, I'd happily give them my spare change but I don't want to come across as a cunt by saying here's £1.30 pal, keep yer magazine.
