Where would I find non-obvious Psychedelic Culture related clothing/accessors?

I'm referring to things in the manner, that those who aren't apart of the culture have no idea what it is.

The way I dress, act, mannerisms, nothing about me says "drug user", and I want to keep it that way.

Tie-dye shirts, or even accessories with a molecule, are just too "I use drugs, search me please" for my liking.

However, I'd like to have a manner in which to communicate this aspect of my personal life only to those who themselves are a part of it.

Shirts with quotes/phrases that have ambiguous meanings, but are from our culture, or with art that isn't attributable to the culture due to it not following certain cliches but did originate from it.

Obscure references only someone like us would recognize essentially.

My book shelf at home would make it obvious, and my general personality and eccentric interests probably give the hints... just want to do a little more to express myself to those around me that know.

I'm in the same boat though, i occassinally do the tie-dye (reppin the colors lol), but I prefer to dress more humbly usually. For both practical(not getting searched) reasons as well as more resonance with non-flashy attire.

However, when i feel all eccentric and wanna make my attire an artistic expression of sorts...I used to draw and write poems nd positive messages on shirts with a marker. Lol, you stand out, but it gives you the option to personalize the message and response-incited by observing you. Ha, I used to have a shirt with this big pro-vegetarianism poem on the front of it, ad a hge Smiley face on the back that said 'have a good day!'....I had one too with a mushroom lol, more for days I was feelin my fuck-the-system vibe, and days I wasn't worried of being searched ;)

I wear dashikis now-a-days when I'm feel in the bright clothing vibe...colorful, trippy, cultural, goodvibes...!

I used t do 70s psychedelic band shirts daily lol...Floyd doors Hendrix etc. But only sometimes now. The original goal of adjusting clothing was to get the brands off of it for me lol. I don't want to pay for a shirt that advertises for the company I told myself....if they were cool sure, but all the popular brands in America I want nothing to do with. So I went on ebay and got used old school shirts...lol, now I evolved into ethnic clothes....tah da....fashion evolution of someone who doesn't really care abut fashion lol...just analytical enough to evolve my expressions in such, if its to be done (wearing clothes) it should be done right(not supporting fascist industries;)). Lol

True 'on the level' people will recognize abstract art and/or naturey shirts as being indicative of cultural support being approached humbly, I would think...
 
I wear pretty much all solid colors without any reference to anything. When I was younger I hoped this forced people to engage me without regard to the insufficient medium of self-communication that is fashion. Some part of me still hopes that's what people suspect. But now I mostly just assume they think I'm some boring sod. Oh well. You could sport the t-shirts of semi-psychedelic bands like Cloud Cult or something.

I would have to agree that fashion is a pretty poor means of communicating beliefs and identity. I don't think fashion should be designed to make a statement at all. I think fashion should be designed to be aesthetically pleasing, because that it CAN do.

On the other hand, people are prone to making snap judgments, and fashion can be a fairly reliable indicator of one's interests/what kind of person they are, at least to a point. On the other other hand, this isn't necessarily reliable, I dress pretty conservatively, usually wearing buton up shirts or only sometimes some printed tees. You wouldn't really be able to tell anything by looking (but some folks dress to declare subculture, and in that case you can tell oftentimes).
 
I find that by dressing in chinos and button-downs, I'm pretty counter-culture to youth fashion anyway haha.
I even associate the style with psychedelia due to the way our new revolution is focused more on knowledge and soul than hedonics and pleasure like the "free love" wave back in the day.
But don't forget to free love regardless of looks ha. (:


Oh, plus, the authorities pay less attention to my crazy ass, too heh.

Chinos and button downs aren't 'counter-culture', every single idiot who has no interests and wants to be the same as everyone else wears them. Maybe thats just were I come from though.
I would say stick to band t's if you want to stick out less or non over the top psychedelic clothes.

Man, where I'm at (and it seems like it's a wide spread thing in my age demographic) everybody wears brightly threaded jeans with enormous button pockets, skulls and tigers are on everything, and bedazzled fucking bedazzlers galore. Seriously, I don't even think the 80's were so ostentatious. Add some damn anime hair to the equation, and there you've got the spitting image of my high school cohorts..

If slacks and wovens aren't counter-that then I don't know what is..

And besides, there aren't too many great Turtle Nipple and the Toxic Shock (Heavy Heavy Low Low) or Amon Tobin band tees..


I was definitely checking out that Imaginary line for undershirts though.
 
What about clothing with artistic screenprints by artists who may have been inspired by psychedelics? There are TONS of cool clothes on etsy.com. A shirt or dress etc with a design by an artist like Alex Grey would be awesome, (I'm not sure whether they're available? but something similar certainly is). Ethnic designs, for example textiles made in the Amazon where they use a lot of natural psychedelics. Also jewelry with semi-precious gemstones, intricate geometric designs... It really shouldn't be hard to find things online that look psychedelic-inspired without being obvious. But they may not be labelled as such.

EDIT: Alex Grey shirts are definitely available online - just Google it
 
Well, I like to wear moccasins, polo t-shirts (always single coloured, could be bright colours or not), if you're a guy a beard looks conventional but gives you a 60's kinda look. Take a look at jack white's outfits (from the white stripes). He dresses like an urban cowboy or something. I love his shoes, I actually got a pair of long shoes (don't know what their name is) last month. They look something like this:

indian-like clothing is very comfortable and also psychedelic-ish I guess.

A friend yesterday linked me to some button up shirts, that I know would be amazing when looked at on psychedelics with their patterns.

This is the best advice I've found. Every thing I'm finding that I really like, is Psychedelic inspired.

Cloud Cult shirt looks pretty cool as well, about to go check out their music if I read that guys post right and it's a band.

Wow, I got to know about tie-dye just now. Is it easy to do? Looks awesome, and where I live there wouldn't be any problems about it.

Threyda looks very good, gotta check some other sites now too. You guys got me hooked right now. And besides apparel, any accessories?
 
go to a thrift store and buy the most ill fitting, mismatched and bizarre wardrobe you can find. wear underpants outside pants. add magnum P.I. moustache + jet black aviators. mission accomplished, prepare to be approached by Mr. Crakokane.
 
I usually go full-out with my trippy outfits, especially since I mostly wear them to shows where tons of people are tripping and would appreciate seeing that sort of thing, but if you want to be more subtle, 60s and 70s vintage is a good option. There's tons of clothes from that period with very subtle trippy patterns that just look retro to your average square but would immediately stand out for other heads. You can find that stuff reasonably cheap (under $100) in vintage stores or on Etsy.
