The Oil Dome/Skillet Lovers Thread!

I saw there were a few "what method is your favorite" type threads, but not a specific thread on Oil Domes and Skillets.

I personally see Oil Domes and Skillets to be a very different breed of smoking device from all other devices. In my group, and in most groups ive observed really, they tend to split the group up a bit - those that take skillet/oil dome rips from those who smoke herb, hash, or whatever via other methods.

So ive set up this thread as a means for people to discuss Oil Domes/Skillets, ask specific questions, and get some feedback.

I myself have owned in my life both, and love both for seperate reasons.

I find Oil Domes to be amazing, however they break a lot easier than skillets (as theres more work to be done to get a perfect hit). Skillets tend to leave more build up though, and I feel that I get a more complete hit from an oil dome.

Currently I own a skillet attachment for my bong and love that thing like a baby. It gets me to a level (especially with Wax) that just doesnt compare to any other THC high. Its the type of high where all I want to do is eat cartoons and watch pizza. %)

So what are your views on skillets/oil domes? Love 'em or hate 'em? Glass or Titanium? Know what they are at all?

Now I know there must be some out there wondering what the hell a skillet or an oil dome even
is. Well, here are some pictures and videos to demonstrate!

A small explanation: Oil domes and Skillets are types of concentrate smokin devices akin
to the "hot knives" method. Basically, they fuck you uuuuuup (/party monster)

I adore my skillet attachment for my bong - it's the only good way I have to smoke my home-made BHO and QISOW hash. I remember my early teenage years of using hot knives, ugh to that!

I've never seen a high-quality oil dome like the one you linked, that looks pretty legit. I've rigged up a few in the past but they were never anywhere near that quality. That's VERY cool.
 
BHO or wax on a skillet is godly! Last time I made wax I used it almost strictly on my skillet and was getting so high I was walking into walls and tearing shit down! ha!

The titanium oil domes really are amazing. A lot safer than glass ones as you dont have to worry about breaking the nail. They also stay hotter much longer - one of the beauties of titanium over glass.

Many glass blowers get really crazy with these designs as well. Ive seen some really intricate skillets and oil domes as of late.
 
Yay finally such a thread on bluelight :D

At first I bought a skillet, used it with not a so good bong and it was really nice. My glass bell had a little entry for the dabber so it made it easier to hit the titanium. You might lose some smoke in a windy space with a skillet.

Then I bought a piece with an oil dome, my daily piece I love it! It came with 2 glass nails but I only used one once, I only use the titanium v3 nail it's really awesome.

Also it sucks that this kind of game almost strictly exist in mmj states because here in canada the glass blowing is way off, i've never really seen nothing expect but chinese glass. I heard to got some good glass in ontario and vancouver though, but too far!

Because you are using an invalid link.... You were trying to IMG tag java code, not the picture. You need the host link, not the view link.

For future reference, if you put [ img ] aksjdhasjkd.jpg [ /img ] without the spaces, itll work the same.


Ive heard from so many people throughout the country that they just cant find these types of pieces anywhere. Do pipe shops not sell them in your area? Do pipe shops not exist in your area?! Ive never actually lived outside of California, just visited, so I have no idea what the smoking cultures are really like outside of the mecca of smoking cultures in North America.
 
There are headshops around that sell overpriced bongs/pipes all over the place. Custom glass is more rare, but there are a few decent shops that you can get your own glass blown here as well (MA,ME,NH). From what I've seen of CA on my few visits, our selection is less diverse, but still very exist To be honest, all of my shit is from online vendors, expect my bubblers and glass bowls - those I buy locally. I've never seen any good oil domes and nails locally, though.
 
I tried the link you used in first place Chainer, don't know why it didn't work. Blame it on the bho :D

Head shops in my area sell bad glass or acrylic bongs for really high price. And the percolation science isn't something quite known here I guess. There might be some glassblowers here but I couldn't find anything online.
 
probably mid 2011 iv started seeing more of the vape globes and skillets in my area (texas). there pricey but you can shop around and find the same ones for cheaper at different head shops. i love the vape globes such a smooth hit, iv yet to try out the skillets unfortunetly but i will sometime in the near future. i have a nice head shop selection just depends on how far i want to walk/drive

Wow! Im really taken back, oil domes and skillets are in most of the shops here in LA, unless theyre the smaller ghetto shops.

It's pretty much the conclusion I have came to, everything's in Cali!! Every quality glass product I have ordered yet has been from shops there.
 
Not too long ago i was able to grab up some earwax from a kid i used to get bud from. I had heard about it before but had yet to try any so he let me try a rip out of his oil dome which was an entire process of its own, but one big ass hit out of that thing and it was like I was 16 again and ripping good nug for the first time lol was really really high. I ended up getting 2g's of the stuff but when it came time to smoke, it was kinda trial and effort and after smoking it a few ways the oil pipe was hands down the most efficient.
 
Thats basically the way I like to describe it to people who have never tried it before. Its like smoking agian for the very first time. I love seeing the look on peoples faces when they first try it. :D
 
Damn.... I really want one of those oil domes! Although I'm having a hard time understanding how it fits into my downstem for my bong (or do you need a special bong for those? Ive never seen one anywhere aside from this thread and the bong pics thread).

I've only been to 6 or so different head shops here, none of which have skillets or oil domes. I seriously need to find out where to get one of these, everytime my dealer picks again he sits at the kitchen table, dumps the bag(s) out, and picks out ALL the stems. It gives him an extra grand or so every few months, plus makes it easier to weigh out bags (for all the highschool kids that are poor and buy a 5chunk->a 20 sack that is.) Since he's a good friend of mine, he sells me vials for dirt cheap and I usually always have some oil kickin around in the drawer!
 
They can fit in all bongs, just remove the downstem and stick it in - of course making sure they fit size wise (14mm, 16mm, etc).
 
Really? That picture looks like a female end at the bottom of the dome, not male. That's why I was so damn confused.
 
I haven't figured this one out either GBM. All I can tell you is that the joint on that piece is under 14mm, I can't fit my skillet with a 14mm male joint on there.

I think you need some kind of female adapter to fit a nail, but like I said i'm learning just as much as you right now :D
 
Glad to see some others on here getting down on BHO. Here is a couple pics of my oil setups, Here is a 14.4 oil bell I got from Blazemaster , and my toro setup with a blazemaster bell. Rips like a champ!=D
