Hello,
so recently I was prescribed tramadol for my back pain and I think its one of the best drugs ive taken that actually works. Feels/works much better than the vicodins i was taking. Anyway ive been taking the tramadols for about 2 weeks now and my tolerance always grows quickly so now i basically have to take 400mg (max dose) just to get the same mild effects i used to get. But i dont take it for the euphoric feel, here are the reasons why I love it and my question will soon follow afterwords.

1. Lasts a long time
2. When i take a high dose it makes me really sleepy and its fun to try to stay awake
3. When i sleep for 6 hours i always wake up refreshed and it just feels so good to wake up feeling all warm and happy.
4. Makes watching tv much better, feeling weak and good, overall happy and not wanting to move.

So my question is this, is it because of the opiod in it that it makes me wake up feeling happy/warm and just a sense of well being or is it because its a SNRI or SSRI (whichever one it is). Im worried ill grow to be dependant on it since i have a very addictive personality. Basically now I take 10 of the 50mg tabs. Good thing i havent had a seizure yet or any negative effects. So you guys know anyother drugs that will give me the same good feeling? And that is also not so hard to get prescribed, wish i could get some oxy or percocet but doc wont give it.

I was prescribed Tramadol after being prescribed vicodin for ages related to a broken hand. I think the doctor realized I really didn't need vicodon anymore, and after I requested pain meds for the umpteenth time, he finally gave me the "fuck you" painkiller, Tram. I did the same thing you did, took 300mg+ amounts but I never seemed to get any effects from it no matter how much I took. I eventually gave up and gave the rest away to friends who seemed to get the same feelings you do.

Even though it's a synthetic opoid, Tramadol is still physically addictive. I'm also worried you could become dependent on it, since you enjoy it so much. I don't think any drugs can really give you the good feeling you're after without being addictive in the long term. Any other opiates are going to give you the same feeling except much stronger. I've never had an opiate problem, but I'm sure you know riding down that road is a dangerous path.

I'm not sure if I told you anything you didn't already know haha. Just be careful is all. I think you're getting the opiate-esque effects from Tramadol's minor actions upon the μ-opiod receptors, because SSRI/SNRI drugs don't get you high.

I appreciate the response sig, I just wanted to know if it was the opiods or the SSRI SSNRI crap that makes me feel good/warm waking up in the morning. I used to wake up dreading to go to work, all cold and groggy, now i actually look forward to waking up even though i get only 5-6 hours of sleep. I get to work and im just drenched in a positive vibe, cant really explain it, but i was wondering if different drugs like Prozac which alot of people praise can give me the same "sense of well Being" feel.

So what you guys think are better drugs to get the "well being" feel?

Dude, if Tramadol is working for you, and you do seem to like it, why not just stay on Tramadol? Just take it as prescribed because like 'Sigmund' said in his reply, it's physically addictive, and that's the honest truth.

O-Desmethyltramadol is anything but a weak mu agonist, Sigmund. His liver makes more of it than you do.

GrimGuy, chasing the high will bring upon seizures. Slow your roll, man, take 2 tabs every 20 min instead of all at once, reduces seizure risk.

I don't know if this is true or not but I heard if you take a small dose of tramadol followed by another small dose 20-30 mins later it will actually give you more of a "higher feeling" than if you were to take both doses together at the same time...

Tramadol is a very effective antidepressant. And the reason you wake up after six hours of sleep and feel good is because you're still experiencing the effects of the drug.

As mentioned, tramadol's metabolite (o-desmethyltramadol) is a very potent mu agonist. However, it can take hours before the metabolite reaches peak concentration in your system. Subsequently, its typical opioid effects are very much delayed.

Throw yer' Tramerdoll away-you'll then realize how bunk yer TV is, then throw that away-n-you'll be able to get some sleep...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If you take a pill, wait 20 mins, take another pill, wait 20 mins, take another pill up to about 300mgs or so, you WILL get "higher" than if you take them all at once.

This is because your body will begin to make the enzyme that converts part of Tramadol into o-desmethyltramadol, which is a very powerful compound. Taking 300mg spaced out like I mentioned will make your body produce more O-DMT than if you took 300mg all at once, thus getting you higher.

And as someone who's been prescribed Tramadol for a little over 5 months (+ a shitload of other good drugs), Tramadol is a shitty, dangerous, and sketchy drug. Be careful, and DO NOT EVER go over 400mg. It's not worth the risk. The seizure risk is VERY real with this stuff.

I think it's also irresponsible how doctors seem to downplay the risks of taking Tramadol. If I have another doctor tell me "Tramadol isn't dangerous or addictive!" I think I'm going to break their fucking nose.

This is one instance where you shouldn't just listen to your doctor, Tramadol can be very dangerous. Moreso than other opiates, IMO. Also don't mix it with anything other than other opiates and benzos.

If you're going to skirt the 400mg line, I wouldn't go near that dose without a decent dosage of Klonopin. (There are a whole other set of risks with mixing a benzo and an opiate, but this combo is a bit safer because Tramadol is a very weak opiate, if you're going to do this BE CAREFUL with the benzo dosage if you aren't experienced with them)
