I think MDAO makes a really good point here.

Some men see through the game and decide not to play it. That doesn't necessarily make them poor sexual candidates. In my mind, it makes them more evolutionarily evolved; a homo novus if you will.

Agreed. In all the circles I run in, the fights are verbal and the successes and defeats are social. That doesn't make the stakes any less real, though.
