First and foremost, I apologize if this is in the wrong area or if this question is off-limits.

I believe I know the answer, I'd just like the piece of mind in knowing that I'm correct. I take oxycodone and somas for a back problem that I suffer from. The drugs allow me to lead a normal and productive life for the most part. Anyway, I have a job interview this coming week that obviously requires a drug screen. If and when I come up positive for opiates, as long as I have a prescription, I am covered correct? The medical review officer or whomever calls me can't disclose what drugs I am taking to my potential company as long as I provide the prescription and prove that I am using legitimately, right?

If this is going to get locked or deleted, can I please get the accurate response to this question first, please.

I'd appreciate it.

Just let em know in advance that you may test positive for opis, have your script and doctor on standby. It depends on the individual job I suppose, if it's something like operating heavy machinery, maybe you won't get it either way =D

It's a management position. Really? Should I disclose this information ahead of time? I'm thinking no.
Your last part was funny tho - and sad at the same time. :(

If you have a prescription, you're fine. Just tell them you have a prescription and show it to them. Problem solved.

Drug testing questions are prohibited here.

Hey there, welcome to BDD :)

We don't allow drugs test questions as a rule (particularly how to cheat a drugs test for obvious reasons, but also general questions about how long it takes to test clean after ingestion of a drug as it can very hugely) but this one is a bit different as you know you are going to test positive.

If you have prescriptions which match the test results I can't see how there can possibly be a problem there.

The second part depends on your contract. Medical professionals are bound by confidentiality, so they cannot disclose your results without your permission. However, it may be in your contract that you are obliged to disclose to them the full drug screen results - or it may be that as long as the medical officer is satisfied (ie that your test matches your prescription) that is all they need to know. As nAON said, it might depend on the nature of the job!!

I'm obviously not a specialist in employment law and I am sure it varies from place to place (and job to job) so I don't think we are going to be able to give you an accurate answer to the question of how much detail you are required to disclose - you could try calling the department responsible for handling your drugs screen perhaps, or take a look at your contract? Your employer can't force you to disclose medical details (In the UK anyway, I can't speak for elsewhere!!) but they can deny you a job if you fail to provide all the information they require as part of the application process.

As this is a borderline drugs testing question and also strays into legal areas which we dan't really help you with I'm afraid, I'm going to close this - but if anyone has anything to add or any queries feel free to shoot me a pm.

There is also a drugs-testing subforum within BDD which might be worth a peruse for further information.

Good luck with your new job! :)
