My name is Zoeylynn. I have been taking opiates for about a year for lower back pain legally. I have a good MD. I'm from Houston Texas. I like reading about opiates and doing research.

Sounds like you'll fit right in Zoeylynn :)

Welcome to Bluelight! If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a PM :)

I feel the same way!

I think it sucks for people who are in pain and no dr will take them seriously.

You're telling me! I was in severe pain about a year ago, and no doctor gave me anything worthwhile, except for while I was in surgery (IV fentanyl + midazolam).

Most doctors are not compassionate, I am glad you have a compassionate one. :)

I do have one question. What causes the itching with the lorcets. It only seems to happen late at night and i only take 2 or 2.5 a day. I started taking Xanax 1 mg to get some sleep but I think it's causing the hang over feeling in the am. Is this normal?? Could that ba an allergic reaction??

I can explain! :)

Why opiates cause itching is because of histamine release. This is just connected to their method of effects, and their effects in vivo. I can't tell you more without getting all sci-fi and I'm too sick to care to do that. =D

An anti-histamine suppresses the additional histamine release and hence it reduces this effect (pruritus). :) I've always found it pleasant when I was on heroin but most people hate it.

Alprazolam (Xanax) is a good benzodiazepine for anxiety during the daytime but for me as well, causes the "hangover" feeling in the morning. This is because most benzodiazepines will interrupt REM sleep; causing you to never really get real sleep refreshment feeling in the morning. Temazepam (Restoril) doesn't do this, so whenever I've used it at an appropriate dosage (7.5mg is ideal for low tolerance IME) I feel very refreshed after a normal night's rest.

I'm referring to the itching not the hangover feeling :)

Well I went ahead and explained both because I'm awesome like that. =D

I like this site. I find a lot of useful information on all kinds of topics. I may never use the different drugs but I know other people who do and I will pass on the info I learned. Everybody has been extremely nice and respectful. <3

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I hope you will find this forum so much interesting and useful regarding health and fitness.

Thanks for the reply :) why does the itching only happen at night?

I would get itchiness from opiates 24/7. I really couldn't tell you, however, the opiates you take in the morning will wear off, and if you redose later in the day, it might be that at night, you have a higher concentration of the drug in your blood, becoming a "great enough" dose to cause this incessant side effect.

That's my best guess. :)
