I'm going to invent a new written language!!!

He';s not "pioneering a new language".

My 5 year old boy and his mate started making a new "code" the other day, they do new codes quite often, I'll try and scan some of their previous atempts in Mugz, might be helpful to get a fresh perspective for you, let you see what you're up against;)

Lol @ "pioneering a new language", c'mon to fuck haha.

Written Chinese kind of works like that, with pictograms combining to make new words. For example, as far as I remember, 'Ink' is a combination of 'chimney breast (ie soot)' 'clay' and 'water' which is what they used to make ink out of.

Written Chinese kind of works like that,

true, chinese is a very advanced language.

The more advanced a language, the simpler its grammar and structure become.

How much of English is actually necessary? Not a right lot. But we love to use it.

I'll post the main 12 symbols later tonight when I get a chance to draw them in mspaint, or take a photo of them with my webcam.

If not then just laugh at crazy Mugz again for another of his crazy ideas =D

Where are these 12 main symbols we were promised?

Don't be so harsh on the mockers and knockers, you did invite it in your first thread.

And do you really want everyone cooing and telling you what a great idea it is, even when it isn't? Surely it's worse to be patronised cos people think you're too sensitive to take proper criticism, than it is to take genuine criticism on the chin and work with it.

Well said MM. Surely being false and being overly nice is worse than just being honest and saying it is a daft idea and surely you could find something better to do with the ridiculous amount of time your going to waste on this (which you are unlikely to ever come close to completing anything worthwhile).

I can really relate to your friends drawing his own worlds and I admire mugz for pioneering a new language.

I bet. Do you both hang around the same nursery?

it's weird that people are so scathing. I can understand taking the piss, well if it's done with some decent lolz attached to it. nowt wrong with that if it gets a laugh

but scathing about something so kooky and positive baffles me.

like I said, Grant Morrison and a number of other of cool peeps have alluded to doing this kinda thing for years.

lack of abstract thought maybe makes people assume it's just a childish idea so that's why maybe it's easier to just auto-default to ridicule?
or the likelihood that the project gets abandoned midway through makes them think it's pointless?
but who gives a fuck about that really. tis the journey that matters etc. maybe the naysayers aren't journey peoples.
blargh. just musing

I heart the idea Mugz. s'10 times better than zoning out in front of COD4 for hours, or getting leathered and headbutting or kicking in shop windows fer kicks

Its your opinion that Im being overly nice, dishonest and that Mugzys idea is daft. In my honest opiniion its a revolutionary idea :)x

I don't think you're being dishonest, and it definitely IS a revolutionary idea.

I just think Mugz should have thought things through a bit before announcing "I'm inventing a new written language" AND inviting criticism, and then getting a bit defensive when the (inevitable) criticism comes in.

I do think it's a daft idea though.

Says MM, while attempting to make a Darth Vader snowflake from a pattern.

Mugz, produce a perfect R2D2 snowflake for me and I'll have more faith that your pictorial language might get somewhere close to fruition.

and where are the first 12 symbols we were promised?

will try and take a photo of the first 12 symbols with my webcam now and post them in a sec

:)

Is the aim of this language to be a simplified form of written language, doing away with all the clutter and non-essential parts of existing languages?

I thought I had too much time on my hands.

This is the strangest thing I have read for a long time, I think you may have lost the plot.

ok, well I have some symbols to show you.. I have am uploading only the symbols that I have given meaning for so far and then 4 short sentences that have been made using the symbols.

This was the first symbol that I created. The writing isn't too clear for the descriptions, the symbol is the bit in the sharpie pen, the english is the descriptions. The dot in the middle means either balance or peace depending on context. I think the rest is readable.
(haha, the captcha message to be able to upload this last picture was "gone dolally" 8) hehe )

These are the symbols that I created after the original 12, questions words and other necessary words. There will be more necessary symbols that I need to create but this is the start. They allow me to form some basic questions and sentences.

Here are four short sentences that I made using the symbols and the rules. I should add that the symbol that is just a straight line is meant to represent the word that is associated with that part of the main symbol. Forgot to put that in the rules, will update soon.

Using even just those symbols a lot of sentences can be written. I'll update with the other 11 main symbols when I have given the parts of them meanings.

That is what I have so far, will work on the other symbols a bit more tonight. Try and broaden the language somewhat more, so many more things can be written using the symbols and the rules of the language.

I'd like to think it makes an effort to create words and expressions that grammar struggles with, and works towards incorporating the ineffable

In that third sentence I created using the symbols, the meaning could change from "Did she scare you?" to "Does she fear you?" just by adding a line in between the two diagonal ones.

Have you been taking a lot of speed recently Mugz? Over a prolonged period?

I suppose I should post up a few of my Star Wars snowflakes up in return for that :D

Which one of us the biggest timewaster?

What's the very first picture about Mugz? I kind of half get it I think, but surely just with that kind of wiggley line you must concede there's a bit of a limit on how far your going with this. Cornish's post kind of illustrates what I mean.

I'm basically going with this

This is the strangest thing I have read for a long time, I think you may have lost the plot.

I think if you mentioned this to most people in real life you would get a similar reaction. I'm just being honest with my thoughts rather than saying I think it's a great idea.

I'm not scathing about it at all, the post which seems to have upset you was more directed at YPDH than Mugz. Yes I am saying Mugz is daft (as he already knows and I frequently say to him). It is a kooky idea and if you started rambling on about something like this to work mates or someone in your local news agents, you would likely get some very odd looks and possibly sectioned.

Abandoning something midway through does make it seem a bit of a pointless waste of time.

What's the last line of that all about? Where have I ever said I go kicking in shop windows for fun? I broke a window ages ago yes but several things happened it a fairly short space of time that would likely have drove most people in that situation a bit wild. Not going to bother going into it.

All I can say is to me (and I think most other half sane members of the population) this seems crazy. If it annoys people I'm being honest I'll leave you's to it so only positive things can be said :)
