Surprisingly, the lens didn't even get a scratch. Good news is I learned what an emu growl sounds like. Always a silver lining?

Some shots i took of our fire new years eve! I took them on my iphone and im really happy with the detail.

I've been having lots of fun with my Canon 550D, and took some shots over Xmas/NY - I've only had the camera off manual for a small time at the beginning, so the shots have been a little hit and miss. I'm actually attending a photography course today (travel & landscape).

So I completed the first part of my beginner DSLR course yesterday - travel & lanscape photography. It was brilliant and i really feel I learned more about the functionality of my camera. The next one is Capturing Joy (portraiture) and then the advanced course.
We touched on: Creating depth in lanscape photos, the best time/s to shoot landscapes, techniques (when you shoot and post processing) to enhance colours in the sky/ground, training your eyes to see light like a camera (and equipment to help), the 'magic' distance to get clarity in landscape photos, creative blur; shutter speed, etc. We then had some fun with light painting :D
Here are a few examples. I've also included a couple of processed shots that i took back in 2006 before I knew what bracketing was lol. I had these sitting in my albums for years, and now i have a copy of photomatix pro, i have been able to apply HDR processing to them :D

Samadhi - those are really beautiful, particularly the beach images, you're very talented.
My husband and I are saving up for holidays in the next year or so and I'm dying to go to a lovely beach just so I can take some photos! Well also so I can drink cocktails and lie on the beach but I'm getting sick of taking photos of where I live, I need to get out of my comfort zone.
