Is it technically illegal to "be" high?

^exactly...
In many European countries (think Scandinavia), it is illegal to have THC metabolites in your urine. I kid you not!

You can be perfectly sober, but a cop has the right to force you to pee and should the test be positive, you get dragged to court.

If a cop saw I had red glazed eyes, and asked me to provide him with a urine sample I would promptly tell him to fuck off, give him a slap, and then run away really fucking fast.

Scandinavia I don't think so - Arabic countries like DUbai, and UAE yes for sure...not sure about south east asia - I know thailand and malaysia are REALLY bad on drugs, if you're caught with them on your person, but no idea about if they suspect you of being under teh influence of drugs (inc ganja).

I went to school for a semester in London and remember on one of my last days, I saw a really drunk guy while having a pint fall out in the street. When I left, he was still laying on the ground and very messed up. He could hardly stand. I was amazed to see police officers talking kindly to him and trying to assist him, assessing if he needed a doctor or not. In the US public intoxication is not as acceptable, at least during the day. Depending on the cop, the guy very well could have been arrested here.
.
Yeah it's pretty socially acceptable over here, they TAX you for it, so you;'re given a certain amount of slack...unless you're being an asshole, then chances are they'll just say to move it along and go and sober up somewhere like at home, or with a cup of coffee or a good meal etc...BUT being drunk and disorderly in public they can easily do you for if they want/.

^exactly...

they TAX you for it.

LOL! in the UK??? BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHA fuck off! you have some of the cheapest liquor taxes in the fucking world. in australia a beer costs at least 4 times as much, not an exaggeration. same with bottled spirits. and tobacco products.

if we get to be england's little pet still, how come we dont get all the perks too?

One time my friend and I were so stoned at 1 am in the morning past curfew (this was like two summers ago) and we walked to the gas station so high out of our minds. We had to talk through this glass thing cause the store was locked due to too many robberies. The guy working got sketched but then we told him we wanted sour patch kids... Lol he had to walk through the store and lift up packages and we gave him a thumbs up... Then I had to slide my card in this slot thingy. I'm surprised he didn't do anything. Well we did end up going across the street hiding from the cops in the bushes eating sour patch kids cause I was convinced every suv was a cop car. Then my mom picked us up and got us mcdonalds...

The only time I was sketched out about cops catching us high but then again I think I was just afraid of being caught after curfew (dunno why) but yeah in the end if I'm high in public then whatever. You wanna arrest me, then fuck you! Oh well one night in jail isn't that bad.

Oh well one night in jail isn't that bad.

Fuck that, especially if you're thrown in the holding cell after night's already fallen. Fuck being handed a blanket, getting escorted to the cell, having the door open and all your thoughts on getting a peaceful night's sleep thrown out the window when you count 19 bodies packed in like sardines and no space to lay down, even if you decide to wake someone up and tell them to move the fuck over.

Fuck any nights in jail. I'd rather stay handcuffed to that god damn bench while I wait for one of the commisioners to recog me instead of spend any more nights there.

I know fuck jail but I will continue to get high and I will continue to be high in public. So if they're going to arrest me idgaf, if a night in jail is all you got then I mine as well light a blunt infront of the police department once I'm released.

LEGALIZE FREEDOM

It's all you get if they release you on your own recognizance.

If you're a frequent visitor, have constant run-ins with police, don't have a permanent residence, or were a dick to the officer that escorts you to the room where one of the commissioners meets with you via her webcam or whatever the fuck else put her face on that TV screen then you could very well be given a bond that you cannot afford to pay and be a forced resident until your court date, which is usually about 3 months down the road-- and then, in my state at least, depending on the incident that led to your arrest and your criminal history you could very well be given a 364 day sentence for simple possession once you go to court.

Lol, fuck that. Jail's a bitch. What you might as well do is smoke in the privacy of yours or a friend's home. Just because enough people break a law doesn't mean that law is going to be repealed. The opposite's proven true in this country, actually, especially in reference to drug laws.

I know what happens haha even my mother who was not a frequent visitor couldn't afford her bond and was in prison for two months....

Of course I'm not going to smoke weed in front of a police station but I'm not going to walk around afraid. I'm not going to live my life in fear. The day cops arrest you for having red eyes will be the day I flip shit. I already hate the police and they overuse their authority (seen it and lived it). So come on and arrest me..... They'll magically find another thing to throw you in jail for anyways.

WTF is curfew? like i know the concept, but what exactly are you referring to? not coming home when your parents say it's bed time??

Some cities, towns and municipalities have a certain time in which people below a certain age (generally anyone not 18 or older, but it can be lower than that) are legally not allowed to be seen out on the streets, or, if they're in a car that's pulled over past the designated curfew, without their legal guardian. If police happen to see someone they suspect of being younger than the cut-off age out past curfew, they will generally attempt to make contact and (to my knowledge) bring them home. I'm not sure if criminal charges are ever brought against curfew breakers, though... I think it's a strictly civil offense that results in fines. I THINK, mind you, I'm not 100% on that one.

Curfews for minors are typically used in places where crime is rampant, but I feel ya. Though, in the US minors don't have many civil liberties at all. They pretty much ride on the coattails of their parent/guardian's civil liberties on this side of the Atlantic.

Lol my mom never gave me curfew that's why she picked us up at 1 something in the morning not mad or anything. Its called our county and every county around us has set times where you must be home and not about. You will get fines and sometimes other consequences depending on your circumstances.

I'm eighteen now though and it doesn't matter though, thank God...

But they have it cause the area in PA I live in not far from philly there's lots of crimes that happen especially later at night. And a kid who was past curfew one night ended up getting shot too just for his shoes.

Questions like this make me sooo mad!! We shouldn't have to be paranoid about being under the influence of marijuana in public is illegal.....you know who the stoners are?? The ones sitting under the trees playing chess laughing our asses off and eating munchies...that is it! Thankfully I have been in touch with a few sites: Health Canada & MMAR Card and I am starting the process of getting my marijuana card so that I never have to worry about being 'illegal' again!

If you're walking around being OBVIOUSLY high on something, and I mean its blatantly obvious to everyone that you're high, then I'm sure the cops could get you for public intoxication regardless on if you have anything on you or not.

Remember, some cops are big headed assholes and will intentionally be an ass to someone, just because they can. I got a DUI and got my car impounded once for having 1.5g on me >_< I stopped at a 4-way Stop sign to make a left turn, after I stopped a Black SUV pulled up to the right of me. I started driving, since I was first, and the other person started driving too (2 lane road so I thought nothing of it). Then, I notice the driver is some1 talking on a cellphone, and drifting into my lane. Damn near hit me, so I honked my horn. Turns out it was a ghost car, he pulled me over and said I was high. He wrote on the police report that I was slurring my speech and had terrible red eyes. Then it was signed by 3 cops (yes, he called in 2 cars to back him up for this). Was I high? No. I was on my way back home to get high, but I was most definitely sober as a nun at the time.

Depending on the cop you have to deal with, anything could be illegal =\

Im not 100% sure but in the UK or at least Scotland I believe its legal to be high as long as you aren't in possession of anything. I wouldn't go on this incase you end up getting arrested tomorow but im pretty sure thats the case. Although they could get you for other things if they werent the nicest of people and wanted to.

Thing is subjective things such as "acting dodgy", "smell" or "squinty eyes" is often used as an excuse for a search in the UK. Last time it happened to me I was actually chomping on a ganja cookie while they went through my pockets, fools XD

In the UK there's not really such thing as an illegal search in that if they find something, you're going to get done for it whether they had reasonable grounds to suspect your were carrying something illegal or not (as far as I know), so if they think you're high they'll try and pin something illegal on you if they like and can and do get away with it.

As long as you're not operating heavy machinery like a car, you're FINE in California. %) ESPECIALLY if you're a medical patient. %)

Lucky, you get to stroll casually down the street in some kind of cocky 1950's manner while we spark up our joints in alleyways next to people smoking crack pipes looking around every 5 - 10 seconds due to paranoia lol :)
