Opioids Benefit of snorting over oral?

There's an increased "high feeling" for around 30-45 minutes when a substance is insufflated not ALWAYS, but mostly). The bioavailability can increase (I believe this is the case with Dilaudid/hydromorphone - oral tablet BA=like 25-30%, but insufflated it can be close to 50%). The studies are sketchy in this area, but there's at least a lot of gathered experience here on the boards.
They make Butorphanol, a Sched. IV Opiate Nasal Spray (similar partial agonist/antagonist model, just weaker, than Bupreorphine), which just increases the quickness of delivery method (taken orally, it works just like other opiod analgesics in its class). I used to make my own Dilaudid nasal spray by crushing (mortar and pestle, filtering (microfilter - not JUST cotton), putting it in saline solution (just like < 0.10 amount, even that's high). Then I put over a candle or heating source (careful the bottle gets HOT), then every couple minutes shake the solution to get the binders/fillers out.
After all the crap is filtered out, they're just like (sorta lol) pharmaceutical grade (remember NO IVing these! Follow smarter BLers than me if you do that).
If you add Saline to the dry, crushed pill solution (and remove binders/fillers, which often are toxic to the body - lungs and heart), you're just snorting drug + saline solution (- binders and fillers), which is always a good thing. I swear to god I am allergic to some medications just because I've only ever tried one brand, and the binders and fillers are the issue. Oh well.

It depends on the type of the Opiate, you wouldn't want to snort Poppy tea (even in its dried form). Oxycodone or high quality powdered Heroin is a completely different matter.

Yeah depends on the opiate. For example, as I understand it oxycodone has a good oral bioavailability so you can take it orally with good effects. You can also snort it for a faster onset.
However, heroin has a lower bioavailability taken orally than snorted so if you take it orally you will need a lot more heroin than you would need were you to snort it. That's why just about all heroin users snort or inject their heroin.
Hydrmorphone, as was already mentioned, is another opiate that has a better bioavailability when you snort it vs taking it orally.

i grind my pain pills in coffee grinder and mortar n pestle, I mix with baking soda 10-1. pain pills that is.

it all depends on what you are snorting. Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Codeine, DHC, are all best taken orally. Snorting will make no difference with: Heroin, Morphine*, Pethidine. Snorting will increase the effects of Hydromorphone, oxymorphone, morphine (when combined with chitosan)

-Swallow codeine derivatives (-eine and -done) as they were designed. They're not worth snorting or IV'ing.
-Snort morphine derivatives (-ine and -phone) if it isn't safe to or you don't wish to IV them. They're absorbed inefficiently when taken orally and IME the effects ceiling is far more limited even with an equipotent dose.
With the exceptions of meperidine AKA pethidine and the fentanyl family, synthetics are best swallowed. That would include tramadol and, if one considers it to have any real value at all beyond placebo, dextropropoxyphene.

How fast do they work (oral usually takes about 30 minutes)? 5-20 minutes.
Are there increased risks? Only the normal ones that come with snorting. Also less of the drug is aborbed proportionally (with certain opiates).
It also shouldn't hurt but it may sting a bit.
