And its very embarrassing axe battler:| There was a long queue behind me the day the chemist recognised me. Really not cool.

Get a disguise axe battler if you dont want the imminent humiliation. My collar was well and truely felt and whilst the chemist gave me a lecture about codeine infront of a few neighbours, I shrunk into my pus-syness and slithered off to my car to make my escape but my slithery, grubby, reptillian hand was unable to turn the key in the ignition.

Hah, so do you want to name one place on earth that every single member of the community is faithful to one person? At best it was poorly thought out, there is no denying they caused problems in Africa. End of, we can agree to disagree but if you honestly think that your mad. I do not hate Catholics, I just do not understand how anyone can put faith in something that's done so much wrong, I'm leaving it at Africa last time. But the amount of young boys that were abused at their schools, only for the priests to be forgiven and put to another school to do the same thing to many others. This has been rife even higher up in the pecking order and the pope himself has forgiven his cardinal (spelling?) for doing such things. I'm sorry but nobody gets over that, if that was me I would dedicate my entire adult life to ruining all aspects of the person who did it's life and credibility. Equally these people's parents must have been pretty heartbroken too, the ones who knew where the kids hadn't just dealt with it on their own. For the good they've done vs the problems they've caused I would like to see their fortune spent putting some of these things right and helping people who need it, not stored in millions worth of paintings and gold locked in a basement.

The gulf in the amount religious and non religious give to charity? Is this based on your findings or is there any statistics/source to back this up. Fair play if you have one, I'd like to see it though. From what I have seen in my life with the people I know it's the exact opposite. They may put a bit of money in a church basket once a week but I doubt they'd give a homeless person a pound, probably the sort of people who would say all homeless are wino's I'd imagine. Andd the likes of charities for earthquake victims, cancer patients, orphans etc. Are they using their resources to check whether the people who donated the money are religious? I very much doubt it. And 52 atheist leaders killed more than every war put together, are you saying these people are the same as your average atheist? Thanks for the info but I don't really see how it was relevant to the conversation?

But if they were going to ignore the the more important teaching of not sleeping around, they might as well have ignored the teaching about condoms too. The truth is they ignore pretty much all the teachings most of the time, and they just sleep around without condoms and I doubt what they were taught in Sunday school even comes into it. Anyone who has done it without a condom will tell you (I don't know if you have) that it feels about a billion times better. The Catholic church protecting paedos is precisely what I was alluding to when I said that there are better crimes committed by the Catholic church for you to source if you want to discredit them. I just don't buy into the 'they told us not to wore condoms so when I visited that prostitute I thought I wouldn't make God extra made so I went raw' argument.

The contention that the religious give more is based on studies and surveys. The primary source that I am using is the book 'Who Really Cares' by Arthur Brookes. (http://www.amazon.com/Who-Really-Cares-Compasionate-Conservatism/dp/0465008216) Here are some facts and statistics from the book:
http://www.faithfulreader.com/reviews/0465008216-about.asp said:
-People raised in intact and religious families are more charitable than those who are not.
-People who practice their faiths regularly are America’s big givers: They are 38% more likely to give money charitably each year than people who do not practice a faith, and 52% more likely to volunteer their time.
-If liberals gave blood like conservatives do, the blood supply in the U.S. would jump by about 45%.
-Religious people give away four times more money each year than secular people and are 10 percentage points more likely than secularists to give money to explicitly nonreligious charities.

When income is controlled for the following findings came up:
'Brooks’ research shows that the average religious person is 23 percent more likely to give financially and 26 percent more likely to volunteer their time than a demographically identical nonreligious person' There was also a massive gulf between the amount given in states with a higher percentage of church goers than states with a lower percentage.

Just to balance it out about, here is some more research from gallup that was conducted on a world wide basis(http://www.gallup.com/poll/122807/Religious-Attendance-Relates-Generosity-Worldwide.aspx):

My point about atheist leaders killing that many people was that you said religion has caused more wars and killed more people than anything, and that is patently untrue. I was seeking to demontrate that in the absence of religion other ideologies take over and the killing continues. This suggests to me that it is human nature to kill, and that leaders who don't feel like they are going to be held accountable for their actions in the afterlife may well be less likely to spare the sword.

I remember reading somewhere that it was belief in Hell that kept many stock traders from doing stuff like stealing, sneaky trading, etc.

So while religion doesn't work for me - i'm sure that having religious people around is probably for the best (except when such issues arise in politics, in which case God can GTFO)

It has certainly stopped me stealing for my whole life. I guess people could argue that i'm immoral and that I shouldn't need to be overseen by God to not do shit, but apparently I do lol.

sweet jebus, when I read your posts they generally make me WANT to be slain*, which is certainly an achievement [possibly a miracle!] since I <3 consciousness so much. congratulations! someone pass me a fucking sword, or come to mine and do the job for me. jesus

* hmn, is that the right tense?

yeah, i'm kind of clean at the mo, but i have like 7 or 8 fairly close boots, so i can mix it up a bit.

it is very embarrasing, my usual excuse when recognised is that i left them at work and explain that i need the fuckers due to an ongoing condition. kinda sucks not having a car when i have to go to multiple pharmacies.

MrSmokesBlunts.. I come from a long line of villains.. a very questionable gene pool.

I'm not a thief but when I walk past a lorry as one example, that has loads of electrics unguarded Ive already robbed it in my head. I dont usually tell people about that but one day I asked a few people if they did the same thing. They all shook their heads.

I can honestly say that I dont buy into those thoughts. But I used to before I became
a Christian .. started praying etc. ( I would have weekly band of Gold type 'jobs' planned out :D )

I have no clue why it takes anything other than your own sense of reasoning and ability to assess, form an opinion, and conclude whether or not nicking something is acceptable or not. your own capability to judge a situation's merits is all contained within your consciousness, coupled with your reflection upon your experiences and your observations of the behaviours and experiences of others surrounding you.

you are your own god. even if another 'god' guided you, or brought you to the conclusion that stealing from another is not right, it was still your perception of that god existence that brought you to that conclusion

I said may well, not definitely... Which is suggestable given their high kill counts compared to the other religious leaders through the ages. I would like to congratulate you back for once again replacing any form of reasoned debate using statistics and facts with spewing feelings. I have a feeling that my opinion on the topic could change given a half decent response, backed up with some sort of stats, and a feeling that nothing could sway you because your thought pathways have been short circuited by irrational emotion :| You have disagreed with practically every single thing i've said on here, and not once have you ever put an argument on what we've actually been discussing forwards... For someone who <3s consciousness so much you should try exercising more than a 3 year old just once by contributing something that moves a debate forwards, or just stop chiming in with pointless bullshit, either would suffice for me.

Marmalade it would have been a crime not to nick from the lorry.^

Once I discovered this relationship something like a marriage with in me I would feel so convicted about stealing. I would be too worried about the lorry driver.
I completely changed and softened as a person.. and Im happy with that :)

It is generally crimes that can be perceived as 'victimless' that it stops me doing. Like if that van belonged to a huge chain or something... I know of countless white collar crimes such as defrauding the government that could have me sat on a beach with millions of pounds for the rest of my life, but I don't do it. I definitely have a conscience and know right from wrong, but I think it is way too easy to pacify and validate my way out of. It is obviously a spectrum, and at the moment I am really struggling to see why people who clearly have exceptionally high emotional IQs and empathy struggle to understand that others weren't born the same way as them.

Weve all got things we are working on. :)

Top of my list at the moment is losing my rag with people, not that i'm doing a brilliant job lol. And to think all this started because I said I went to church yesterday. I didn't really expect such crap from a community of people who strive not to be judged by wider society on a near daily basis. I probably would have gotten a warmer response if i'd said that I molest stray animals...

Ha Ha
I <3 Marmalade. You seem to be tuned into a similar radio station I listen too.

:)Ive been debating for a few days in some of the other threads. I dont know about you but after a barrage of questions,, Some people bring genuine concerns.
Maybe Bluelight could have a chaplaincy. Most of the posters on here are young.. some in their teens. Its really fashionable to be
an atheist/ or even a Satanist. I would really be happy to look at one of thier texts.

Its probably not a good idea for fractions to emerge. But I'm really interested in seeing how things evolve or morph when just a drop of holy spirit starts doin the businezz
<3<3<3<3
Well maybe its a trigger for you Blunts. I understand your confusion reading it back Marm really took the piss and insulted you, That wasn't massive rag-loosing..You kept your cool,, Stay cool hun x

Does anyone else nick pens from work, drive over the speed limit or eat the odd cherry from asda that you don't put in the bag and pay for?

Still, I'm loving your discussion, its refreshing to have some other views and experience on the board. I don't believe in any gods, but I wish I could adhere more to the teachings of Buddha (who is not a god). What are your views on Buddhism?

Good idea start a thread for religious debate and gibberings.I ordain you Sister Yella of the Bluelight church of sweet merciful Jesus.:D

I have opinions on this but I'm soaking in the bath atm, drinking my 2nd bottle of wine, and half-assedly watching episodes of the League [cheers PTCH score 1-0 to you, you'll watch veronica mars eventually and it'll be 1-1 ;p] ...

anyhoo ... I'll respond to MSB later when Im out, if my 2nd bottle doesnt make me nawt care ...

and Kate .. when Ive grown up a little I'll eventually 'get' buddha, in the mean time, I'm an INFJ, and Maslow's biatch ... and too deconstructionist [kinda Derrida I guess] .. all due to necessity atm I think. Maslow certainly pwns me, and gets my mostest <3 if I'm honest

also, Joe & YPDH ... <3. Humans who like humans = win

[edit] and MM, he gets <3 too ...
