HEALTH experts have warned of the dangers of a rave drug dubbed “the new mephedrone” being sold on the streets of Wales.

The emergence of NRG-2 comes a year after mephedrone – also known as “meow meow” – was banned in Britain along with NRG-1, which was reputed to be 13 times stronger than cocaine and more addictive than heroin.

“That it is legal is even worse. The Government are to blame that there are not more stringent rules to protect against this kind of thing. “The Government need to pull their socks up because sooner or later kids are going to die.”
Janet Roberts of Wales drug helpline Dan 24/7 said: “It’s an unknown quantity. You’re playing Russian roulette with your life.

The Home Office insisted it was dealing with the problem. A spokesman said: “The UK government is leading the way in cracking down on ‘legal highs’ by outlawing, not just individual drugs, but whole families of related substances. “We have introduced import bans to stop these drugs entering the UK, we are introducing new temporary banning powers against new substances while we assess the harms they pose, and our Forensic Early Warning System is improving the detection of ‘legal highs’.”

In one year NRG-3 will hit then in another, NRG-4 will hit and so on and so forth. They don't understand by banning one iteration, a new one will be created. This is all about money and they don't seem to understand that-they make it out to be like legal highs are explicitly out to kill people. Its the fact that people have no idea what they're doing but assume it is safe because its legal. This is what gets people, I think so anyway.

If anyone is retarded enough to buy something that some 13-year-old gave the "chemical" name NRG-
they deserve to die from it...

no one deserves to die from taking drugs. I cant believe you would say that. The name does not help inform the user of what exactly they are taking chemically. It just informs them of a feeling that is being sold to them. I think this whole idea of selling a feeling and not a chemical is truly the problem here.

I do. Why would anyone take a drug that's supposedly chemically named "NRG"? It sounds like a tobacco company trying to sell things to little kids..

^ I Hate to sound cold, but if i'm totally honest i've gotta agree. People stupid enough to go out and take random amounts of unknown chemicals should be honored by being part of natural selection.

It's like that weird kid in science class who tries to drink the hydrochloric acid. ¬_¬

What about all the idiots who take some drug that someone decided to call "Ecstasy"? Do they deserve to die as well?
It’s an unknown quantity. You’re playing Russian roulette with your life.
That is the ONLY kind of Russian roulette.

"It’s an unknown quantity. You’re playing Russian roulette with your life. " - Thanks to prohibition.

I'm sure you have a good counter... but ecstasy is pretty well researched and generally safe in moderation. "NRG" is something people are putting together in their garage with various unnecessary chemicals, and no one knows the effects. It could be a potent carcinogen for all we know.

^Very true, and that is a good reason to avoid it, but the fact that it has a silly name is not.

Yeah but you have to also realize it's done to sell it. And anyone that does stupid things like that to sell it generally doesn't care about what happens to users at all. We don't name cigarettes "cool" or any of those names because we want people to be safe. I remember when I was 8 and had not a shit about drugs I'd look at anything with a cool name and want to buy it, including a cigarette ad with pretty colors and a nice sounding flavor.

Do you test everything you take before you take it? People put all sorts of shit into all kinds of drug. Do you test all of your pills? Fair enough ecstasy pills should contain only MDMA.. but we all know alot of them don't.. some even contain harmful chemicals such as PMA. Do people that don't test every pill they take deserve to die? People shouldn't be taking chemicals without finding a bit of infortmation out about them, which is pretty much impossible without actually knowing it is, but they don't deserve to die.

You sir, deserve a slap.

"all anaesthetic agents … slows down the heart" - really?

"4-Methylethcathinone (4-MEC) – also illegal" - really?

I certainly learned my lesson about testing pills. I didn't know about blue light or about dangerous pills prior to my bad experience. I think it's because we are raised to not even question why drugs are illegal so you have no idea that one that is relatively harmless can be cut and kill you. Prohibition is indeed what kills most people

Maybe the Government already has pulled their socks up because of the hundreds of thousands that have had their lives ruined or have died due to prohibition.

If they cared about human beings in any way they would legalize and regulate drugs so that ignorant or misinformed people wouldn't take random chemicals - whether in pills called "ecstasy" or in packets of "bath salts".

Yeah:
Any compound (not being Bupropion, Cathinone, Diethylpropion, Pyrovalerone or a compound for the time being specified in sub-paragraph (a) above) structurally derived from 2-Amino-1-phenyl-1-propanone by modification in any of the following ways, that is to say,
by substitution in the phenyl ring to any extent with alkyl, alkoxy, alkylenedioxy, haloalkyl or halide substituents, whether or not further substituted in the phenyl ring by one or more other univalent substituents;
by substitution at the 3-position with an alkyl substituent;
by substitution at the nitrogen atom with alkyl or dialkyl groups, or by inclusion of the nitrogen atom in a cyclic structure.
