Who's done it? The atmosphere of the land would be absolutely amazing for some cacti.

Also, [question redacted by author]? And, what precautions would you want to take? Snakes, water and heat, orientation, trip-sitter, etc.

I don't think people can tell you locations to trip on here, if you're lucky someone might private msg you though. I've done it at the beach and that was a pretty amazing experience, getting lost in the sand, the sky and the waves of the ocean. I imagine the desert would be pretty epic to. wherever you go, you're gonna want to pack plenty of water and make sure there is some sand dunes to climb and get to the top of and see some amazing views.

I don't know how intense of a trip you are going, or if you are going with other people. I will say though at high doses, alone and secluded can be the most intense kind of trip, I imagine you are pretty experienced with this, and if you have a life changing experience it will be a good one. Keep track of your water intake, if you go with someone I'd most definitely take an eski and keep an eye on how quicky you drink and how much time has passed.

But most importantly, relax and enjoy a unique experience, oh yeah... and take protective sun gear.
I often find it hard to distinguish heat properly during mushie trips so, a pair of sunglass's can be fantastic to mix up your feeling.

Ahh good point, I didn't think location queries might not be allowed, I'll edit that out.

Yeah my next trip will be at the beach, on LSD, I'm really looking forward to it. I might do the san pedro desert trip a two or three down the line. I am aiming for a high dose trip, my second powerful trip ever actually (first was DXM third plateau; bad trip) so I don't have much experience, and I think it would be wise to go with someone else who's less inebriated. At any rate, I'm aiming for a full visionary experience. There's a real spirit to deserts and I can only imagine mescaline would amplify that.

I have pale skin, so it might be an idea to have most of the trip at night to avoid UV exposure, especially because it's summer. On the other hand, if it's dark, there's a higher chance of getting lost. In a desert. While tripping. With brown snakes and shit. Again, necessary to have someone sober or close to it on hand.

Thanks for your reply, I was beginning to wonder if there were really no Australians who ever even thought about tripping in the desert, which seems crazy.

Burning man looks pretty mental in America. A few friends went over a few years ago and the pics looked unreal. Now that's the place i'd want to go tripping in a desert. I'm pretty sure we have had some kind of music events (doof/festival) held on the outskirts of some aussie desert ages ago, but i'm not too sure on it anymore.

A couple of nice places i've tripped at -
Some really nice caves.
The Royal botanical gardens at night time.

I've wanted to go out to the desert for an experience for a while; a good friend and I were planning on going for a road trip to a place where it would be possible and where an intense psychedelic experience could take place. Unfortunately he passed away before we had the chance, and I've only ever tripped in the urban jungle since then.

I always get burned when I'm on acid it horrible. I don't really like the feeling of sunscreen either.
I don't really like tripping at night because I always feels its subtracts from the visuals. Maybe sunscreen up and drop at 2-3? That way you won't need to reaply sunscreen while you are on acid and you will be in the mood for the sunset

Most of our landscape in WA is almost desert. Big white coastal sand dunes are definitley conducive to it. Also grass trees on big rocky hills that turn in to armies of bouncing tree creatures have a certain visual appeal.
A really cool experience I had once was camping in the outback with some good mdma tablets it was way too hot in the bush so we went and sat in this swollen flooding river that had taken over the usual campsite. You could hold onto the trees and really feel the force of the current, it was awesome. And just sitting in the calmer shallow waters in the shade... ah the serenity

Do it about an hour before sunset for best affect. The sunset will put you into a good place and then the night will be magical.

Hah, gutsy! I'd do that for a dark trip for sure. Maybe the one after this one.

Yesss. Mesmerising even without the aid of a substance. Perhaps not mescaline, though - trip lasts too long. Mushrooms?

I was thinking this too. I'd want to experience some of the daylight. Similar to thickskin's advice, I'd probably take it around 3p.m., so I'd reach the peak at sunset. Would night-time detract from the visuals? - probably, but I'm not doing it for pretty colours, and I figure it'd be best done under light of a full moon anyway. Fear of snakes? - something I've considered too, not sure about that one, except that having a sober sitter on hand would once again be handy. Would it get boring? Hah! Nothing is boring on mescaline.

Flickering, you're into some cool shit haha. Ever since taking mescal myself i've dreamed of going into the australian outback and tripping there. A while ago I was planning on spending a month living in the outback, doing the whole survival thing. And during that month i'd have several mescal trips at different times of the day. Being outdoors is spriitual as anything when you're on psychedelics. Mescal is easily the most spiritual enthogen i've ever taken and I can imagine that taking it in the desert would be a life changing event. Don't give up man! Do it. Be smart about it as well. Like peoople have said there is risk, but if you're prepared then there's nothing to say that it wouldn't be an important, beautiful experience.

Anywhere you can get up high and survey the surrounds would be awesome. The outback has heaps of little rocky outcrops that you could use for shade and a base of operations etc. Personally i'd want to get as far away from any major roads or tourist locations so I wouldn't run into anyone while tripping.

Seriously bro, this is an awesome idea and I can't wait to do it myself. I hope you do it man!

peace

I like your idea of finding a shaded base of operations, especially since I'd be looking to drive to the location. Right now it's not a question of IF or even WHEN, but of WHERE. I've spent most of my life in the city so I'm not well versed in the outback, and I don't want to have to travel too far, both due to petrol and because it makes processing and ingesting the cactus more difficult. So I've been asking around, and some friends have recommended a few good spots, but none of it so far is quite what I'm after.

Like you, I find nothing to be more profound than a mescaline experience. Although, I have yet to try ayahuasca and iboga... the time will come for those... Sand dunes and rolling plains with no one around for kilometres, it just seems to fit, and the only reason I can wait to see what it'll be like is because I have an LSD trip to look forward to in a few days. Simpson desert or somewhere like that would be ideal. Especially because one of the very first things that inspired my psychedelic use, years back, was Homer Simpson's insanity pepper trip.

Also kind of similar to your survivalist idea, I was going to get a van and drive across Australia for a few months with some cacti cuttings and mushrooms, stopping whenever I found the right place to have a trip. I'd still really like to do that. Live out the hippy lifestyle I was born a couple of decades too late for.
