I did utfse and did not find what I'm looking for. I know that swtiching from methadone to sub can be difficult, but I also know that it depends a lot on tolerance and how much methadone you have been taking over how much time. Well I take subutex everyday, but I ran out today and took 100mgs of methadone around 2pm. Tomorrow around 4pm I getting my subutex refill. Provided I am starting to feel the methadone wearing off and the first signs of w/d, would I be good to go ahead and dose sub? I figured precipitated w/d should not happen because I am not adddicted to methadone, I am addicted to subutex. So, since I only took the methadone once (as opposed to someone trying to switch to sub after taking methadone everyday for a while), should I be able to take my subutex just over 24 hours after dosing the methadone provided I am starting to feel slight w/ds? I figure since my receptors are used to buprenorphine, when the methadone gets replaced by the bupe at the receptor site, I shouldn't go into w/d because the methadone is being displaced by something that my body is accustomed to, rather than a much weaker opiate which would cause instant w/d. Can anyone confirm my theory, or shed some light on the topic? I really don't want to have to wait 3 days to get back on my sub after taking methadone once. Thanks!

Hmm well that's not good. Would it be safer to start off by taking a *ver* small dose of bupe, like .4mgs, and assessing what that does to me before taking more? If it helps, take more, it it seems to hinder wait more time...? I would assume it would take a certain amount of bupe to cause pw/ds, right? I don't know much about the factors that can cause this, as I have NEVER had pw/ds happen to me before.

i would wait at least 72 hours before doing subutex to avoid precipitated withdrawal because it is far more awful than just plain opioid withdrawals

Indeed...bupe does kinda come in, just throw whatever's on the receptor off of it, latch on, and only partially agonizes it...that just doesn't sound good at all lol...

That is completely unnecessary. Methadone's half-life is only 18-36 hours anyway, so 72 hours is overkill. I obviously can't state this as a fact, but as you said, you are not even addicted to methadone, so it is only logical that your body is so used to the bupe that it will be, in essence, expecting it. I know that I myself use IV buprenorphine regularly now, simply for economical reasons(1 8mg suboxone lasts a few days when IV'ing, and since I get a few for free every month, it makes it a much wiser option for maintaining my habit, while I use my spare cash to buy my DOC's, so that I can take a few days off of the sub's.) And the great thing is that IV bupe has a much shorter half-life than sublingual, so I am fine less than 24 hours after any bupe dose, no matter how many days in a row(even weeks) of using bupe, I am always able to get full effects from other opiates/opioid(methadone,oxy, morphine, DD specifically) in less than 24 hours, and usually 12 hours is fine.

Anyway, point is, in my experience(and what I have seen) a bupe addiction saves you from precipitated WD, particularly from s 1 time use. Though 100mg of methadone is a large dose, so I would wait at least full 24 hours, not for fear of PWD, but simply because you will still have a decent amount of the dose in your system, because of MD's long half-life. Depending on your metabolism and whether or not you took an enzyme inhibitor, you will have anywhere between 25-75mg methadone left in your system, and most likely on the lower side. If you know you have a slow metabolism, or if you got pretty wasted on that dose, then 36 hours might be necessary, but no more than that, and as I said, you wouldn't have PWD's after 24 hours, though knocking off the delicious full-agonist methadone isn't fun!!!

(BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what dose of bupe are

I'd wait at least 72 hours. I have had precipitated withdrawal last for 10 mins to 6 hours or more. No matter how bad you think you start to feel(just because you have some sub waiting right in front of you) don't give in and take it too early because it will be ten times worse. For real. Clinics make the patient wait 3 days without doing any opiates until they can be dosed with bupe the first day.

But methadone is a tricky one just because the half-life is soo long. You can be starting to feel it wear off but you might even still have half of it in your system.

One dose of methadone ran out of my subutec's

Im new to this site and i see its been a long time sense you guys have chatted but i need a answer to my question that i havent found on any other site.... i get prescribed subutec's and have for several months now... i only take one to two 8mg subutec's a day and i snort them i dont let them dissolve under my tounge because it makes me puke and i waste it so the only way i can take them is to snort them and it wears off and i start to feel w/d around 3 hours after doing one...But this is what i need to know with that being said... I am not going to have anything to take tomorrow because i ran out of my prescription and i have bought 110mg (waffers) of methadone to take so i dont get sick... i just got off of methadone 10 months ago after going to a clinic and dosing 110mg a day for 2 years and got put on the subutec's about 8-9 months ago... would it throw me in to precipitated withdrawals if i take the 110mg dose of methadone tomorrow and if it wont will i feel the methadone at all or should i wait a day before taking it? (Not take anything tomorrow and take it Saturday morning?) If i do that would i feel it more? And how long should i wait after taking the done to take my 8mg subutec again so it doesn't throw me into precipitated withdrawals? I really really REALLY don't want to go through precipitated withdrawals i know that feeling cause when i was on methadone nobody told me not to take suboxone with it and i literally felt like i was dying.. it was by FAR the absolute WORST feeling ive ever dreamed of feeling in my lifetime and i NEVER want to experience that ever again.. please help!!!!
