I just took 350mg of Tramadol less than an hour ago, and this is seriously scaring the shit out of me.
It feels like I'm coming up on DXM or something it doesnt feel like Tramadol at all. I've taken this dose in the past plenty of times and its NEVER felt like this. Is it because I haven't smoked a cigarette today or something and the tramadol isn't metabolizing like it should? Please help.

Just made myself puke and am feeling a little better.

I don't think I'm going to die or anything, its just that this is extremely uncomfortable.

Yeah, the comeup on tramadol can provoke anxiety due to its stimulating effects. Just ride it out, you'll settle into a nice high soon enough :)

tramadol blocks NMDA-receptors with similiar strength of DXM (but not DXO)

Yeah, the more I take tramadol the more I notice this.
Why does this happen? Its like the first hour or two is just this nasty stimulant NMDA antagonist feeling, but then like 2.5 hours in, you settle down into a nice pseudo-opiate euphoria.
Is it because tramadol itself is a crappy psychoactive, and only its metabolite O-Desmethyltramadol has recreational value as an opiod?
That would make sense, so basically you have to endure a few hours of the shitty tramadol until a significant amount of it is metabolized into the beautiful O-desmethyltramadol

Why haven't any drug companies started producing O-Desmethyltramadol? It clearly has more value as a painkiller, albeit higher abuse potential than tramadol.

Looks like they do - http://www.vivanls.com/Chiral-Standards/O-Desmethyl-Tramadol-Hydrochloride/vmj_genx_img1.tpl.html.

Dunno where in the world it's available, or approved, though.

ETA: The Serotonin enhancement/Norepinephrine reuptake inhibiting effects of Tramadol are probably causing anxiety symptoms in those of you who've reported these experiences.

For me, I only get positive anti-depressant effects, no anxiety, from Tramadol. But everyone reacts differently, so YMMV.

For the record, I also don't ever feel the O-Desmethyltramadol either, or get any "euphoria" out of the drug. I solely use it as an antidepressant, weirdly enough. Didn't even know it had a stronger active metabolite till I read it on Bluelight, lol.

As said before it's probably the SNRI effects doing this; more specifically, the NRI effects. I take 100mg Tramadol 4x daily by Rx, and I personally find no recreational value to it. This could be due to the fact that it doesn't even bring me the proper pain relief I'm needing out of it (or out of the 3 10mg flexerils and 6 300mg gabapentins they've given me to enhance the effects of my tramadols), so that could have a lot to do with it.

There's definitely some NMDA antagonism going on. My whole body goes slightly numb for about 2 hours and I get that 'tunnel vision' effect, a sure sign of NMDA antagonism
