Fined £180 for half a gram of Mephedrone

Isn't it illegal to racially insult someone?

Not dead war veterans it ain't. Nor dead people in general for that matter.

As for racial slurs in a wider context, it depends on the circumstances and whether there was any sustained harrassment, threatening behaviour or an attempt to incite racial hatred. The act of insulting someone in itself isn't illegal. Nor (for the sake of balance) is burning scriptures.

Looks like it becomes "racially aggravated" if you call someone a racist name when you are assaulting them.

When did insulting people become illegal

Public Order Act 1986
riot - section 1 of the Act;
violent disorder - section 2 of the Act;
affray - section 3 of the Act;
using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour causing fear of or provoking violence - section 4 of the Act;
using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour,

If Sam & Vader would like to engage in homosexual relations for my viewing pleasure [based on their ideologies and opinions], that would be awesomez, kthnx.

go on. don't beee shy

Now that would raise a few eyebrows I'm sure.

Sorry, I fail to see the relativity of the poppy thing? Was that something that was in the news today? I hope so, because if you've just randomly came out with that... well, I'll leave the rest of that sentence until the question gets answered.

Comparing sentences can be a bit daft at the best of times anyway. On another day in another court your mate might have got locked up, same goes for the big bad poppy burner. Just as on another day they both might have got off with the absolute minimum punishment possible.

To be fair, as much as it's pish & I don't agree with it, we all know that possessing drugs is illegal & we'll get in to trouble if caught. It's just the risk you choose to take. You've got to be prepared for the punishment, as harsh as it may be/seem.

Remembrance Sunday isn't for another 10 days, so one presumes this must have happened last year at the latest :\

I think it's a perennial staple of EDL propaganda. That'll rouse King Arthur from his slumber.

its about time things changed... we need a revolution

ok yeah bad comparison. but still, what the fuck. fuck the poppy thing, its about time society woke up

my has just been to court and got fined £180 for possessing 0.53 grams of mephedrone back in may. what the fuck is going on with the justice system in this country...

muslim burns poppies on remembrance day and gets fined £50... a harmless raver gets caught with half a gram of mephedrone and gets fined £180.... wheres the justification in that?

Oh jesus... Why whenever something happens that is perceived as unjust does it immediately have the be compared to whatever 'the muslims' have supposedly been getting away scot free with...?

Didn't we tread this ground pretty well with that whole flag burning thing in America in the 90s (Bill Hicks etc etc). Yes the behaviour might be fucking stupid and ignorant, but wasn't the whole point of WWII (as my old grandad, gorblessim, was always at pains to point out) to protect these freedoms?

The big question here is "What the fuk was he doing in Court For such a small amount of drugs ?

exactly. what a complete and utter waste of time and money for everybody. the law is a joke

So why mention poppy burning, which is utterly irrelevant?

Does your proposed awakening of society entail some very dodgy politics? That's the impression you're giving. Everyone here agrees (presumably) that drug laws are a joke and as such sympathises with anyone caught with drugs on their person.

it was just an example. not a dig at muslims, but its something that sticks in my mind.

theres many other things that it could have been compared to.

no. it was an example of how unjust the system is.

seriously, what is worse.... showing and protesting a complete lack of respect, absolute piss take insult to the people who shed such a massive amount amount of pain, sacrifice and bloodshed for this country and getting a less punishment for it.... or a happy go lucky raver who gets more of a punishment for a pathetic amount of a class B drug.

i think anyone with decent morals and sense can work this out

ok my bad, i shouldn't have compared the two. my apologies to anyone sensitive enough to get offended by this
