When is it okay to drink after taking phenobarbital?

I took 500mg of phenobarbital some hours ago and now it hit me that it maybe it isn't such a good idea to go out drinking tomorrow. Phenobarbital has a ridiculous long half-time, Wikipedia says it is 53 to 118 hours, and you really should not mix barbiturates and alcohol. So I'm just wondering how this works, did I spoil my whole week or is it okay to start taking other CNS-depressants as soon as I feel normal again?

Wait a while, phenobarbital can still be mighty present in your system even if you don't feel it. Big league downers barbiturates are.

Thank you for answering. Have been feeling pretty soggy all day so no drinking for me today. That half-time really takes the fun out of it.

Phenobarbital does indeed have a long half life. I would wait, at the very least, until the bottom edge of that half life goes by. In other words, wait at least two days before drinking alcohol. Because of individual differences, the half life varies considerably with pheno, but it is one of the longer-acting barbs around. For safety's sake, I would wait at least 53 hours. If you have a drink then, take it very very slow. Gauge your body's reaction to that single drink of alcohol. Do not binge drink whatsoever until after the 118 hour mark (that's 5 days).

I agree with NeighborhoodThreat, with the extremely long half life of phenobarbital it's in your best interest to wait the majority of it out before drinking alcohol. Anytime alcohol is factored in it becomes a fine line you have to walk. In my opinion, I wouldn't drink at all (or very little) for at least 48+ hours.

I agree from exp of taking a bunch of pehno while on uppers I once made the mistake of drinking. Not only did I end up in the hosptial getting my stomach pumped with no idea of how it happened, but it happened fast almost no warning.. I mean I don't remember the end part at all. Just I was drinking then I wake up with my hands tied down and a tube in my mouth. Also I remember it made me horribly depressed to the point where things were dangerous. pheno is not a party drug.

Thanks for the advice, will take it slow. And that's only the half-life that is so long, I wouldn't drink with 250mg (half my initial dose) fresh in my system. This is going to be on my mind the whole weekend or I'm just not going to drink but who wants to be a bore. It's still a pleasant drug but I'm not sure this is worth it.
