Bill Maher's New Rule of 10/28/2011: Trip or Treat.
“This Halloween stop fretting that some stranger is going to put drugs in your kids candy. And put them in there yourself. C’mon, this is America. Acid will be the healthiest thing they eat all day. Do it! Put drugs in the Halloween candy”

“We all know that too much of any drug can cause permanent damage. Just look at Rush Limbaugh. You can’t just decide to give a bunch of innocent, drug-free kids some sort of psychedelic. What if it interacts badly with their Wellbrutrin, their Abilify, their Adderall, their Ritalin and their Monster Energy Drink? The kids are on drugs, alright, the problem is they're on the wrong drugs”

I was sure he would then start moralizing, but he continued:

“When Steve Jobs was young, the drug of choice was acid. (...) If it weren't for acid, you might not have an iPod. And you definitely wouldn't have some of the best music in your iPod.”

He also mentions resent research about psilocybin creating long-term personality change, including broad-mindedtolerance of others, which would be quite necessary for political debate in US.

Now that is what I call unexpected.

I couldn't agree more with his statements. He is totally right about those in charge being hypocritical. LSD, among other psychedelics, has done way more for me than anything I got from the doctor or the soda isle. In fact, I feel that psychedelic drugs have helped me heal some of the damages done. I've been prescribed 5 different medications over the course of my life for depression, anxiety, and ADD and I'm only 19! I find this rediculous when my first LSD experience left me with a positive outlook on life-from one use, I felt changed positively forever.

Ive always said that th epills the psychiatrists hand out are bad for people & Bill is right, psychedelics could do more positive in one sitting than any of the cracked out pills the doctors give their depressive patients.

I enjoy comments like "Do it! Put drugs in the Halloween candy”, it makes me happy imagining conservatives taking it seriously and being really offended.

Kids in America are way overmedicated. In middle school it was easier for me to get amphetamine and methylphenidate then it was for me to get cannabis or alcohol or any number of less harmful drugs. It's crazy to me that an otherwise responsible parent would make their kid take amphetamine every day.

I'll be on MXE this halloween, tripping on halloween is always fun.

It's just how the system is setup. It's easier to give your kid stimulants than to apply behavior modification techniques in treating the behaviors described by ADHD. Obviously stimulants are overprescribed and ADHD is overdiagnosed, but the bottom line is that in our society you need any edge you can get if you have ADHD. It's just a shame that parents decide to take the easy way out by giving their kids stimulants rather than working with them to alter their behavior. But that same mentality goes for antidepressants as well. It's just always about taking the easy quick way out, every time. Even if it's less effective and dangerous down the road.

Psychedelics would probably be helpful in conjunction with psychotherapy and it's unfortunate that this isn't an option. MDMA would probably be even more effective than psychedelics but again, same problem.

My personal theory is that America is so over medicated because we have privatized healthcare. When you're shelling out your own money (hundreds a month if you're a family) to get healthcare, you don't want to go to the doctor when there's a problem with yourself or your kid and be told to just go home this illness will clear up on its own, or that seeing a psychotherapist to help you work through issues/modify behavior is the best choice (especially given the stigmata still associated with seeing a shrink), you want results, some tangible benefit from your obscene healthcare costs, you want medicine (plus it is a quick, easy "solution").

On a side note, the only surefire way to prevent your kids from getting drugs in their candy is to take them to the ghetto. Nobody there is going to waste their drugs like that.

I'd like to see a whole neighborhood of kids tripping acid on Halloween, that sounds entertaining. Instant Youtube success.

^ lol

I agree with the sentiments about psychedelics.
They can be incredibly useful tools. However, dosing people without permission is not likely to lead to a positive experience.

I will verify that last statement first hand. Tripping when you don't see it coming.... I would never wish that even on my worst enemies

hell yeah, go BILL! I agree with him... Yo get with me, I deal with reality
Loosen your mind to the truth, and don't get mad at me. . .

Great video. He called psychedelics "asshole inhibitors". lol

I absolutely LOVE all the great publicity drugs like weed and psychedelics are getting these days. I just wish it was more mainstream :(

People are learning, albeit slowly but it feels like it's happening. Sure there are a lot of people who will never learn but I dream of a day when there's a complete tolerance for the right drugs.

Yeh, of course drugs like acid are potentially dangerous and such [which gets ignore by many people because of the brainwashing they had to come out of], but definitely those drugs Maher mentioned are worse than any illegal drug IMO. I've told this to every doctor who's tried to push that shit on me lately and they kind of hang their heads in shame or seem to silently agree [I'm talking about anti-depressants]
Maher is so fucking hilarious

Just watched the vid. so hilarious.
